I think all of us here have enough of a healthy skepticism about polls to take any of them with a grain of salt. (Very credible arguments have been made that it was Bill Clinton’s impeachment that cost Al Gore the 2000 election.)

You can bet the farm that there is/ will be skulduggery going on, Colonel.I,personally, don't trust the Republicans as far as I can throw them, on a good day. And now that President Trump has hit them in the pocketbook by ending the perpetual wars whose only purpose is to get our Service Men/ Women killed and enrich the bank accounts of the politicians, they are more determined than ever to get rid of him.

It is not a "loophole". It is the highest law of the land. Article 1 Section 3 of the Constitution:

"The Senate shall have the sole Power to try all Impeachments. When sitting for that Purpose, they shall be on Oath or Affirmation. When the President of the United States is tried, the Chief Justice shall preside: And no Person shall be convicted without the Concurrence of two thirds of the Members present."

That being said, it is the duty of every Senator to participate in and vote on whether to convict or not. For any to advocate Senators not participate or vote is disgusting beyond belief!

If it gets to them, he’ll have already been impeached. They may not vote to convict in a Senate trial but he will have been impeached.

Sometimes I log in and scroll down through endless inane, emotional rants from fly over for a few moments before moving on to more productive things.

Other times I'll come across a poster who I recognize as rational and insightful, but often restating and/or rephrasing in their own words areas of common agreement.

Then, there is the holy grail, where a good commenter posts a great post that adds an entirely new twist to an issue that makes perfect sense. Typically, my reaction is: why didn't I think of that? LOL

And so it comes to the point where I raise my glass, and say "well played sir". Whether a senator is "compelled to return back home for important state engagements", or actually goes on the Senate floor to cast an anti-American vote, the public perception (as well as outcome) is identical.

Two other observations: One, the entire deep state edifice is playing with fire; the House especially, but so too the Senate. This is a watershed event in American history, one that Trump supporters may feel there's no returning to the status quo of GOPe/uni-party control.

Two, are we to believe Trump has no ammunition, no effective counter? Isn't a prime doctrine in (military) conflict that the enemy also has a say? Well, the proglibs have been fully exposing their hands - do they have anything left? As for Trump, he hasn't even really begun to fight. Doesn't he get to have a say as all the military strategists will dutifully opine?

There are other Senate rules that force attendance during impeachment, authorizing arrest.

You seem to be congenitally incapable of conceding any valid point. You used the Bush-Gore example and a quote about conceding in that scenario. After an election when there is a clear winner, the concession means the loser withdraws gracefully. In contested outcomes, no one concedes until recounts determine a winner. Sometimes the loser still refuses to concede and takes the matter to court. This is what happened in Bush v. Gore. If Bush had conceded, which is the same as withdrawing, Gore would have become president, not Dick Cheney, who was Bush's running mate.

The 20th Amendment has zero to do with the situation you used as your example. It addresses a situation where a president-elect could not be sworn in. There is no need for a concession in that circumstance. If Bush had conceded to Gore in 2000, Gore would have been president-elect. If he had been unable to be sworn in for any reason, Joe Lieberman would have become acting president in that circumstance.

The GOP is breaking fun raising records off this impeachment scam. Not one GOP member in the US House defected. The polling data make it clear which way the public is going.

Impeachment is a tar baby the Dems have grasped to their bosom and cannot let go. It slow motion political suicide for them.

The GOP-E is not going to suddenly decide to join with them. Professional politicians like US Senators worked very hard to get their jobs. They are not going to throw it all away just to vent their dislike for Trump.

Successful politicians learn quickly you have to deal with lots of people you dislike to get, and stay, elected. If they cannot do that, they never get elected in the 1st place.

This fantasy land nonsense being pushed to the Fake News by DC political consults still butt hurt Trump trashed them in 2016 is pure unmitigated BS.
