When Army Captain Russell Rippetoe was killed in action on April 2, 2003 -- the first combat casualty of Operation Iraqi Freedom -- then-President George W. Bush spoke about how Rippetoe had on his dog tags "Joshua 1:9" engraved on it.
For the past 20 years, military members have been able to wear dog tags with Bible verses on them, giving them light and hope in some of their darkest times. For some Gold Star families, this is one of their most cherished possessions to remember their loved one who gave the ultimate sacrifice. But all this could be coming to an end.

Technically, servicemens are only allowed to wear only approved uniform items.
Buy a second tag and have the Bible verses engraved and tuck the personal tags in your shirt, that would work.
Even better, we fighter pilots always put our tags threaded by our boot laces.
So, put a tag in each boot with approved info that can be seen and on the back of the tag put your spiritual message/verse.
Why the boot? If you crashed your boots with your feet inside were usually the only part of the uniform and body that survived.
Been an Air Force mishap investigator and saw my share of body parts and the boot may suffer some damage, it did not usually vaporize.
“My bet is PDJT will correct this immediately.”
President Trump has more work to do to clean up the brass rats. Top military leadership appears to have, at least some, very bad people.
agreed... which is no surprise since Obama/SorozNazi were shoving as many Enemies Within as they could into our Defense, Intelligence, Security, and policy agencies
(other agencies too, but those especially!)
It still makes me mad; I should let it go; but I am seething at the moment.
68 through 72 I decided to hedge my bets, I had 3 sets of dog tags made during that time.
Set 1: Rom Cath
Set 2: Protestant
Set 3: Jewish
Must have worked out pretty well; I am still here.
Jewish by birth, atheist by choice.
That all makes sense. And is rather sobering.
The senior generals who are Obamaites. Yes.
How long would it take him to tell the Sec Def to rescind the order? Even a tweet is good enough now.
I don’t believe his mother was Jewish.
So, like OJ Simpson in the Hanukkah song “not a Jew”.
>> Mickey Weinstein doesnt sound like a Christian name

After a polite “No thank you; I’m Jewish” fails, how about telling proselytizers: “We’re on a different contract - so go f*ck yourself of I’ll report you, you biblically illiterate clod.”
Weinstein and his ilk “... sow the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind” (Hosea 8:7). To wit:
I was a prostetant for about 5 years!
There is always some troubled spirit like Mikey Weinstein who is so afraid that there may be a God that they object to anything that might be a reminder.
Concur. I have been in several dangerous places and deployed more than a few times and all the platoon sergeants checked was that the tags were present and the last name, SSN and blood type were correct. There was always some joker who had something embossed on a tag and nothing was ever said.
Each company had a dog tag embossing machine, so the tags were being replaced as needed. I had one friend (a captain) change his religion to Druid, so he could have official tags made with his religion on it. NO ONE CARED. We were more concerned that one tag was around the neck and one tag was on the boot lace.
As a Jumpmaster, we always checked dog tags as part of “Pre-jump”.
Only that they were there, not what they said.
Wanted to be able to identify remains in case of.....
That was the reg anyway
and why should the serviceperson have to do that?
Dogtags are meant to be worn inside clothing. They can’t even be read unless you are nose to nose with the serviceperson or the serviceperson’s body.
As for Weinstein, he should be reminded that were it not for Christians, Jewish people wouldn’t have a nation at all and certainly wouldn’t have been able to grow their numbers to what they are today. Why he feels he needs to persecute them is a question he’ll need to answer some day.
There is something special in store for these twits.
Fighter pilots put the tags where it was assured to survive.
Nobody directed us as our leadership also did the same thing.
When as a FAC on the ground, wore my tags around my neck.
And yes, it is a shame guys had to pay for their customized vanity tags.
