A lot of movie stars are on the short side — Robert Redford, Sylvester Stallone, Richard Dreyfuss. Despite being only about 5-8;, Paul Newman always managed to get himself described as “lanky.” Al Pacino is one of the few who always seemed shorter than they were. (About 5-7;, I think.) Maybe that was because Pacino always seemed to be fighting uphill, having to try harder than anyone else. Even in the Godfather pictures, he was the little squirt of the family. Until he wasn’t. He wouldn’t have been Michael Corleone if he had been tall and imposing.
Being compact has proved critical to Pacino’s success. His combustibility, his pugnaciousness, his scorching sarcasm, his intelligence, and his toughness all played off against his tortured hangdog eyes, his mild speech impediment in the early films, his vincibility. Along with Jack Nicholson, Pacino is the most essential American actor of his generation, endlessly watchable even in shameless-hambone mode, pumping electrifying craziness into his lines. Al Pacino has not always been blessed with great scripts but he always shows up for work. He pursues new variations on a theme. If nothing else, he makes you smile.
By contrast, consider a randomly chosen example such as, say . . . Robert De Niro. The two are frequently compared, but there is no comparison. De Niro ran out of acting ideas 30 years ago and has been coasting ever since.

Goodfellas was a masterpiece. I lived with people like that in Brooklyn and they had it down to the detail. Ray Liotta will always and forever be a favorite of mine because of that movie.

Martin Scorsese has magnificent work with this film.
It’s also enjoyable to recognize the many stars from TV and film that have been in similar movies.

YEP! That is DeNiro totally, I wish I could take screen caps from that movie “The Irishman”, practically the whole freakin movie is him making that stupid face. Dice is great, he started his career in Brooklyn during the height of the disco craze in the late 1970s, and he did that spot on impersonation of Travolta and people went crazy for it, Dice said the crowd would explode which I can imagine. Brooklyn where Saturday night fever was filmed, height of the disco/Travolta craze and Dice not only looked like Travolta but did a spot on impersonation. Then he moved on to “Hickory dickory dock...” LOL LOL
I heard he was cool as well but that DeNiro is the exact opposite, he abuses the hell out of anyone he sees below him especially those who work for him, typical leftist.
I wonder if that was for historical accuracy or if DeNiro demanded he be taller than Pacino.
I’ve been intending for some time to drive by the scene with the Corvette. That was filmed in a real neighborhood in Westchester County...it was either Scarsdale or New Rochelle (can’t recall which). When I do it will be in springtime...April/May...which is obviously when that scene was shot.
I watched the Irishman the other night. It was a good movie. Very long.

He makes his home in rural Virginia. A friend of mine who works for the cable company, went over to Robert Duvall's farm on a service call. He said he walked up onto the porch, and who is sitting there in a rocking chair but Willy Nelson. No I don't think Robert Duvall is a pot head! Sissy Spacek is another actor who lives in rural Virginia.

To me, the best thing Duval ever did was as Augustus McCrae in Loneome Dove. Great in Open Range range and as Ned Pepper in the original True Grit. Now those are Westerns but his body of work is just astounding.
Pachino is only an actor
He is a nothing. He doesn’t matter
extremely boring...big letdown. Hate to say this, but these guys are just too old to be doing these kinds of films. They made Deniros face look younger...but he still moved like what he is...an almost 80 year old man.
how could you forget Col Kilgore in Apocalypse Now!!...hes the best part of the movie...
