Pelosi Chooses Climate Change over USMCA Jobs

Ever notice that climate change conferences are never held in places like Somalia or Bangladesh or perhaps one of those islands that are going to be under water the day after tomorrow? They are always held in places like Copenhagen (2009) or this time in Spain, places where the elites can fly in on private jets, stay in five-star hotels, and explain why they must control every aspect of our lives lest we all die in the next dozen years.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has spent all of President Trump’s first term producing no legislation benefitting the American people while concentrating on impeachment, but who has no time to work on the U..S.-Mexico Danada Agreement (USMCA) on trade, led a Congressional delegation of Democrats on a trip to Spain where they can emit carbon dioxide bloviating about planetary climate doom. As Breibart News reports:

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) will fly out Sunday with a large delegation of congressional Democrats heading 3,781 miles across the Atlantic to the United Nations COP25 climate change conference in Madrid.

A key element of the conference will seek to place financial penalties on global commercial aviation to stop people flying and making “unnecessary contributions to atmospheric carbon dioxide pollution.” The Pelosi delegation will join almost 25,000 people and 1500 journalists flying into the Spanish capital to attend the meeting.

Pelosi’s absence from Washington, DC, will cast cast doubt on the possibility of passing an updated North American trade deal by the end of 2019, a departure from her previous characterization of the deal as “imminent.”

They should pass the USMCA. The very modest changes to NAFTA are needed particularly in cyber areas that did not exist in 1995 when NAFTA was passed. It’s the same as before but a little bit better, i.e. Progress.

Did she take some other congress critters with her? Was there a token republican so she can call it bipartisan?

As if she and the rest can’t skype themselves to a meeting. But nooo, they’d rather fly and sip French champagne on the taxpayers’ dime.

CIRCA 2016— Rep. Nancy Pelosi: ‘I guarantee it,’ Trump won’t be president....”Take it to the bank.”
By Eric Johnson, May 16, 2016, 6:30am EDT
https://www.vox.com/2016/5/16/11679242/nancy-pelosi-trump-guarantee-kara-swisher-podcast

“Donald Trump is not going to be President of the United States,” Pelosi said on the latest episode of Recode Decode, hosted by Kara Swisher. “Take it to the bank, I guarantee it.” (video at web site)

She said that she is urging her Republican friends to “take back your party.” In response to the proposal that Trump uses social media better than other politicians, Pelosi blamed ratings-hungry media outlets for amplifying his visibility.

“Social media has democratized elections even further,” she added. “People hear things that may or may not be true, but nonetheless, the democratization of communication is good for a democracy.”

She also discussed the second iteration of the Innovation Agenda, a Congressional effort to defend America’s economic interests by working with and learning from tech businesses. And Pelosi confirmed that, for related reasons, she sides with Apple and its allies in the recent encryption battle against the FBI. “If we don’t sell our products overseas and be pre-eminent, we will not be as secure,” she said. “I think the Apple argument, ‘no back door,’ is the security argument. If we open it up, who’s going to buy our technology?”

Comprehensive immigration reform was the only plank of the first Innovation Agenda, in 2005, that did not receive Congressional action. Pelosi praised President Bush as having made a valiant effort at reform and suggested that no reform will happen unless the people afraid of immigrants taking their jobs are placated first.

“If you want to pass an immigration bill, pass a big jobs bill first,” she said. “In their minds, an immigrant took their jobs — which they didn’t. When the economy is doing well is when we should be trying to pass this kind of legislation.”
