Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot fired the citys retiring police superintendent Monday, citing ethical lapses that included telling lies about a recent incident in which Eddie Johnson was found asleep at the wheel of his car after having drinks.
Named to the job in the wake of a police shooting that killed a black teenager, Johnson was dismissed after the mayor reviewed an inspector generals report and video evidence related to the night in mid-October when officers discovered him unconscious in his SUV. He initially blamed his failure to take his blood pressure medication and said he had a few drinks with dinner earlier in the evening.
The officers did not conduct any sobriety tests and let their boss drive home. It was unclear if they would be disciplined.
Johnson engaged in a series of actions that are intolerable for any leader or position of trust, particularly the head of the Chicago Police Department, the mayor said. His conduct was not only unbecoming but demonstrates a series of ethical lapses and flawed decision-making.
Lightfoot said the police chief of the nations third-largest city repeatedly lied about the events that unfolded the night of Oct. 16 and morning of Oct. 17.

I would NEVER ask my kids for an organ. How selfish!
30 years ago I dont think pensions were 401Ks I think they were just a straight pension without contributions I could be wrong, my mom worked for civil service and she was given the option to change to a 401K however she chose not to!!! Her pension was with no contributions!!!
I’m with you on this. The Mayor is a hardcore leftist who likes purges.
Blacks cannot be racist!/sarc
Africanization is Chicago is nearing Robert Mugabe standards. Chicago is trending toward Baltimore aka Zimbabwe on the Chesapeake
ethical lapses? More like consciousness lapses
They were saying on Chicago radio that he was on camera having drinks with a women that was not his wife. Left, and was later found passed out in his car. The Chi police responded. Eddie partially rolled down his window and flashed his badge. He was allowed to then drive home. The lieutenant on the scene ordered all body cams turned off.
most public employees in the US get a pension with their own and an employer contribution. Percentages differ from jurisdiction to jurisdiction. In Cal the pensions payouts are required by the state constitution.
He is getting a large pension. We was a short time away from getting a Superintendent’s pension which would be $260,000/year for the rest of his life. As he stands now, he will be getting slightly less than that.
