A federal appeals court in Washington, D.C., on Monday denied the Justice Department's efforts to lift a temporary halt on four federal executions.
The department had appealed a trial judge's ruling last month that ordered a stay of the executions while a separate legal challenge to the Trump administration's new lethal injection protocol plays out.
The longest running of the four lawsuits was filed 16 years ago, and the cases went dormant during the Obama administration amid a shortage of lethal injection drugs.
The first of the four executions was set for December 9. The only other federal death row prisoner with an upcoming execution received a stay from another circuit court.

16 years. Unreal.

Bring back public hanging!
How’s that for swift justice? Cripes!
A court in DC.........says it all....
I cant imagine why anyone on this website would ever trust the DOJ to prosecute ANYONE at all ... let alone execute them.
Hmmm. I think I grudgingly go along with this. Although I see no reason the state cant execute in a humane manner the courts are right in that the arguments should be played out before letting the state resume.
That SAID the Obama administration is once again shown to be derelict in its governmental duties.
By that rationale nobody should be in jail.
My a$$. What a load of malarkey.
It only took 4 years to off McVeigh.

When it comes to FEDERAL cases yes. I can assure that if I am on a Federal jury I will refuse to convict a defendant on principle. Thats because I will justifiably assume that the prosecutor is a corrupt political hack and the Federal law enforcement agents involved with the case fabricated evidence and lied on the witness stand.
A lame excuse.
Put some of that extra CO2 causing 'climate change' to good use.
Go to sleep, painless and permanent.
Three taps to the brain stem would absolutely put an end to anything. Honestly, my biggest problem has been this execution theater. Just take them out into the yard, shoot them, hand them over to whatever party decides to claim the body or load them into an incinerator and move on.
The more clever we try to get about executions, the far more clever they get about making it into some experience with horrible consequences. Umm, nope, person’s dead within a few minutes, and they ain’t coming back to complain about it.
Execution protocol should be as follows:
1) Strap the condemned down
2) Place a brain wave detector (aka an EEG-electroencephalogram) and a breathing mask on the condemned
3) at the appointed time, flow 99% pure Nitrogen through the breathing mask at 1.1 atmospheres
4) Wait till the brain waves go flat.
Pros-
No mess, no fuss, painless
Cons-
Not very exciting
I’ve always said we should use the EXACT same methods we use to kill stray dogs and cats.
If it’s humane enough to kill innocent animals it’s humane enough to kill murderous humans!
I hate to do this, but even at the link it doesn’t tell you ... WHICH APPEALS COURT?
Fine - you should do the same for STATE cases too and COUNTY ones while youre at it.
Theyre all corrupt.
That was different - he was anti-Clinton.
Just do it!
I don't get that statement. There are numerous lethal IV capable drugs. Plus, they put them to sleep with general anesthesia prior. I've often thought how humane such a procedure is where the monster just goes to sleep, unlike many who linger with painful diseases. Sheesh, I wouldn't mind going out so painlessly while asleep.
If we ever re-initiated real hard labor, I'd prefer that over these killers just going to sleep. Of course, that will never happen. Pay-per-View public hangings would be my second choice after breaking rocks apart.
