Amid Heroism in London, Gnawing Fear of a Simmering Terrorism Threat
New York Times ^ | November 30, 2019 | Stephen Castle

...

This attack, the police said, had been carried out by [Usman Khan], wearing a fake bomb vest, a former prisoner who had been convicted of terrorism offenses in 2012. [He] was released from prison last year, apparently after agreeing to wear an electronic tag.

...

The rampage on Friday [...] raised questions about the efficacy of Britain’s prison rehabilitation system and about the release from prison of Mr. Khan, despite warnings from the judge at his trial about the threats he still posed.

...

On Saturday, the Parole Board, which carries out risk assessments on prisoners to determine whether they can be safely released, said in a statement that it had not reviewed his case. Mr. Khan appeared to have been released automatically, “on license” — meaning under certain conditions — “without ever being referred to the board,” it said.

...

Usman Khan was attending an event at Fishmongers’ Hall for former prisoners and their mentors in a prison education program, Learning Together, set up by Cambridge University. He was believed to have been invited to share his experiences as a former prisoner.

...

Among those killed, according to the BBC and the news site Cambridge Live, was a Cambridge graduate, Jack Merritt, the course coordinator of Learning Together. The police did not immediately confirm his identity. But a man who said he was Mr. Merritt’s father, David, posted the news on Twitter before deleting it.

“My son, Jack, who was killed in this attack, would not wish his death to be used as the pretext for more draconian sentences or for detaining people unnecessarily,” the post read. “R.I.P. Jack: you were a beautiful spirit who always took the side of the underdog.”

The last two paragraphs suggest that graduates of Britain's "elite" universities are as lacking in common sense as ours. Muslim terrorists are the "underdog".

I'm rather sure Jack would not agree.

I’d rather that the people were allowed to be armed so that they wouldn’t have to be so heroic as to tackle a knife wielder rather than shoot him.

Uhhhhh, ohhhhkayyy. So, who did the deciding in this case?

And what "certain conditions" must be met in order for an inmate to be release "on license"?

Forgive me if I don't hold my breath waiting for an answer.

Or for a "reporter" to even ask the question.

We don't know for sure Jack was an idiot. He was unavailable to confirm or refute his dad's statement.

However, there is evidence to conclude that Jack's dad is indeed an idiot.

License to kill, apparently.

A simmering terrorism threat? You betcha! And it will only get worse over time. Here’s an article talking about how the children of UK Muslims are - in general - MORE radical than their parents.

So those Britishers who are banking on assimilation to solve this problem, fuhgeddaboudit.

We don’t know that about the son. We do, however, know that the virtue-signaling father is an idiot. WTF is wrong with people.

“The last two paragraphs suggest that graduates of Britain’s “elite” universities are as lacking in common sense as ours. Muslim terrorists are the “underdog”.”

I would have thought that Oxbridge (Oxford & Cambridge) would have successfully shielded their (formerly) superb humanities groups against the academically ludicrous claims of the left. El-wrongo.

So, as with our formerly elite universities, if it ain’t STEM, feggedabowdit.

“We don't know”

Then the default is violent, bigoted, degenerate leftist.

One needs to make one’s allegiance to liberty clear and unmistakable. Or else.

The assault threw into stark relief the risks in attempting to rehabilitate those convicted or suspected of terrorism.

This is not a terrorists or criminal driven problem.

It is a religious driven motivation problem by Muslims who want to do what Allah wants done; and they follow he example of Allah's messenger Muhammad.

When you try to rehabilitate a Muslim you are asking them to turn their back on God (Allah)and become like us Allah hated Infidels.
It will not work in most cases because doing what God wants done is a better motivator. - Tom

This case reminded me of Mollie Tibbets and her idiot parents. Mollie was a big proponent of illegal immigration who was killed by an illegal then her parents said that her death shouldn't be used as an excuse to deport illegals. Just goes to show you can't fix stupid.
