In 2015, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency set up a sting operation at a fake university in Michigan. The plan was to catch foreigners trying to game the immigration system by falsely claiming they were attending school.
In reality, the "school" only existed on paper and students were well aware of that. This past week, ICE arrested 90 more students for immigration violations. That brings the total number of students arrested to 250.
Needless to say, some students were not pleased with being caught cheating.
The U.S. “trapped vulnerable people who just wanted to maintain (legal immigration) status,” Rahul Reddy, a Texas attorney who represented some of the students who were arrested, told the Detroit Free Press on Wednesday.
Many of the arrested students have been deported, but some are contesting their removals.
The students had reportedly arrived legally in the U.S. on student visas and later lost their immigration status after the school was shut down in January, according to the Free Press.
What a crock. These "vulnerable people" knew full well that the school was bogus. Why did they think it was anything else when there were no classes to attend?
Meanwhile, seven of the eight recruiters who were criminally charged with trying to recruit students have pleaded guilty and been sentenced in Detroit. The final defendant will be sentenced in January.
Attorneys for ICE and the Department of Justice said the students should have known it was not a legitimate university because it did not have classes in any sort of physical location, the Free Press reported.

It didn't take long for snowflakes on the left to express their outrage over the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency's "fake university" sting operation which saw 90 students arrested this past week for immigration violations. Like clockwork, liberals took to Twitter in order to condemn the sting operation and the man they thought was responsible for it, Donald Trump.
Except it wasn't Trump who started the sting operation. It started in 2015—under Barack Obama.
2020 Democratic presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren, an alumnus of the Obama administration, called it "cruel and appalling." She added, "These students simply dreamed of getting the high-quality higher education America can offer. ICE deceived and entrapped them, just to deport them."
Newsday columnist Dan Janison lamented, "Once again the private sector shows the way. Trump’s experience setting up fake universities has been adapted for government use." He was quickly ratioed by Twitter users eager to point out to him when the sting operation was created.
Jamil Smith, a "journalist" at Rolling Stone, tweeted, “Leave it to the Trump administration to use a fake university—this time, to trick immigrants into forking over cash for fake classes and invalidating their legal visas in the process. They ended up arrested by ICE. How is this anything but entrapment?" He's not acknowledged the fact it started under Obama despite nearly a full day of being corrected.
There are endless tweets from liberals outraged at Trump, accusing him and the sting of being heartless, racist, etc. etc. And there's a deafening silence to the revelation that it started under Barack Obama, their left-wing messiah.
Will the left acknowledge their error? Probably not. Joe Biden still claims that he and Obama never locked kids up in cages when, in fact, they did. Most people on the left conveniently ignore inconvenient facts about Obama's immigration record because they'd much rather believe that Trump is solely responsible for things they consider racist and appalling.

I always thought collegiate recruiters were paid. Are they? I can’t imagine some overly enthusiastic alumnus going to high schools (and definitely not to immigrants) and telling them to enroll at University XYZ.
I guess an exception would be the sports booster. The Tuoheys “recruited” Michael Oher to Ole Miss and it appears all they got was psychological satisfaction from Ole Miss winning for a few years.
But who would recruit for a fake university without being paid?
Kind of lie the schools that Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton got their reverends from.

I’m confused. If the whole university was a fake set up by ICE to catch foreign students attempting to game the visas, then why were the recruiters arrested/convicted? Wouldn’t they have been ICE employees?
