Sometimes, people run for president to raise their national profile. Money is one part of it, but not the only one.

Some of these candidates are really running for vice-president, hoping to be chosen as the running mate by the nominee. Others hope to be chosen for cabinet positions in a new Democrat administration. Some will write their books, now that they are better known after running for president.

And some will land gigs on MSNBC as new analyst talking heads, since they now have the “gravitas” of having been a presidential candidate.

And some are looking beyond 2020, hoping to run in future years. A youngster such as Pete Buttgig(sp?) is young enough to be in politics another 30 years, and be a factor in presidential elections far into the future.
