Maybe to us, but I’ll bet she sees it as chump change, given their real family “business.”

Look up Congressman Davy Crocketts great speech, Not Ours to Give. Too bad his thinking on congressional charity was not adopted as the norm. The federal government loves to give away other peoples money, resulting in tens of trillions of dollars of national debt that can never be paid.

If the dear lady were impecunious, I would not be opposed to this. But I am guessing that she receives her husband’s congressional pension, plus survivor’s benefits from social security, plus congressional health insurance, plus life insurance (assuming there was any), plus whatever investments they had. And since this is coming from the public Treasury, I have to say that I do not think it appropriate.

They have something even better. An almost unlimited supply of free money from the American tax payer available at their discretion. It's for the children and widows after all.

End the tradition now. It is not like she is the widow of a soldier who died in war. He ‘s just a low level politician and she has no right to tax money. If they want to give widows a death benefit than give congress critters the right to buy into a life insurance policy like the rest of we working stiffs.

Most companies have a death benefit as part of their package of benefits. Mine is 2 x base salary. I selected to pay a nominal amount to increase it to 3 times base.
There are a lot of things to be upset about Cummings, and the apparent corruption of his widow, but this is not one of them.

I have the same benefit at my workplace but like you, I pay a nominal premium for that monthly.

Two weeks before he died he said Trump would be elected, over his dead body. Things look good for November 2020
