The daughter of Montgomery County Sheriffs Office Cpl. Eric Sutphin, shot to death in 2006 by William C. Morva, urged lawmakers Thursday to end capital punishment in Virginia.
It is time for the death penalty to be abolished in order to better care for the victims family members, to better serve the public good and to protect human life, said Rachel Sutphin, now a student at Columbia Theological Seminary.
Sutphin was 9 when her father was shot to death during a manhunt for Morva, who also fatally shot an unarmed hospital security guard while escaping custody. Morva was executed in 2017, the most recent person put to death in the state.

Oh, well, if one murder victims daughter wants to end it...
Id be interested to see a scientific poll of those who have lost an immediate family member to murder. Somehow I suspect most are of a different mindset than Ms. Sutphin.
Virgina: Spare the murderers, murder the babies.
An evil place.
1. She wasn’t the person who experienced being murdered.
2. She was 9 when it happened to someone else (her father) and doesn’t have a clue as to how hideous a thing it was.
3. She’s from Virginia, so likely a liberal.
How about not waiting 10 yrs or more to execute killers?
Not just murder. See tagline:
If we knew who the next murdered victim’s daughter is, we could ask her...but we don’t know who that is yet. The death penalty is just as much for showing potential murderers what can happen, as it is a final punishment for the current murderer.

No death penalty?
Where would Christianity be if the Romans didn’t have a death penalty?
In other words...sweetheart...we don't care what you think.
Ending CP will do none of that.
The limp wristed opponents of the DP often say "it's not needed...40 years of staring at the walls is *much* worse than execution".The problem with that theory is that those sentenced to death disagree....99.9% of them appeal their convictions!
And...as flawed a man as I am I must admit that there are at least some crimes...not major ones, minor ones...that I might be inclined to violate were it not for my fear of punishment/imprisonment.
The major ones I don't violate because of my fear of God's judgment.
The reason the Death Penalty doesn’t work, is that it’s not applied within 1 year of conviction, after 1 appeal by the murderer. Death row is full of death-deserving subhumans. Allowing them 10-15-20-30 yrs to appeal and live is abhorrent.
The death penalty only works to prevent the murderer from murdering again.
A now PCUSA (formerly PCUS) training ground for leftist preachers since the 1950s. (There were a few decent guys that slipped through in the early years of decline).
The only law that appears in each one of the Five Books of Moses is that murderers be put to death.
Her father wasn’t available to comment on his daughter’s viewpoint.
Its a totally different place than the Virginia I moved to in 1995. As soon as my wife retires in 21, were out of here.
It is time for the death penalty to be abolished in order to better care for the victims family members, to better serve the public good and to protect human life,
That makes no sense whatsoever.
