The strike at CN Rail has left Quebec with fewer than five days before it runs out of propane, said Premier Francois Legault, who warned of an emergency that could wreak havoc at hospitals, nursing homes and farms.
The premier expressed hope for a settlement between the railway and the union, but called on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the opposition parties to pass back-to-work legislation if necessary ahead of Parliaments scheduled return on Dec. 5.
Burning gas is bad. Go blow on a windmill, Quebec.

Calling Hank Hill.
Don’t need a train if you have pipelines. It is good to avoid a single point of failure.
Burning gas is bad. Go blow on a windmill, Quebec.
A union caused emerging so you have to do it their way.
Sounds like our democrats.
It's one of the few places where it makes sense as there is a gale wind most of the time there.
Quebec is something like 95% hydro. Ontraio is mostly nuclear last I knew.
Propane or NG is still needed for backup generators.
Canukistan can get some nasty ice storms.
I was a wondering why the Canadian geese have been looking sorta chewed up the last few years...
All things considered, wind power never makes sense.
Electric Baseboard doesn’t use propane....
Most of Quebec use electric baseboard/blowers to heat their homes
We could help them by sending them Eric Swalwell.
Democrats/liberals are the biggest control freaks going.
They have no qualms about using the force of the government to compel their preferred behavior out of other people, IOW, make everything they don't like illegal and use jail time and fines to force people to comply.
They are bullies who play the victim card to do their bullying.
This will be a problem in the US as well. Lots of propane comes into the US on CN rail. At least it does in the northern parts of the US. Back in the day I used to unload rail cars of propane.
How dare you! Gas is ruining my childhood!!!
Mr mm works with energy usage and he told me some interesting things tonight.
If you use natural gas to heat your home, you get use out of 95% of the gas, it’s very efficient.
If you use it to power a electric plant and then transmit the electricity, your actual efficiency drops to less than 40%.
There’s the heat lost in powering the plant when converting it to electricity, and then there’s loss of some of the energy during transmission through power lines, the further it has to go, the greater the loss.
Green is self-limiting.
Wind and solar only work as long as there is wind and sunshine.
There’s simply not enough hydro or nuclear to pick up the slack. There’s no good storage devices for storing the electricity long term.
While there’s nothing wrong with the idea of conserving, our technology simply isn’t there yet to support the Green New Deal kind of all electric scenario.
Even considering that some day we may use up the fossil fuels, what’s the point of hording them? To not use them and let them sit?
Yeah, I know, we’re saving the planet from climate change.
What? Don’t these scientists believe in evolution, too?
They might have had propane from Alberta if there had been a way of getting it there.
