New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo is a proud opponent of fossil fuels. But now that the consequences of his policies are harming people in the real worldthose who cant afford to escape to Floridathe Governor is blaming others.
Mr. Cuomo has blocked shale fracking upstate and several pipelines delivering natural gas from Pennsylvania in the name of protecting waterways. But this is an excuse. Natural-gas production in Pennsylvania has increased 60% since Mr. Cuomo banned fracking five years ago, adding $6 billion to Keystone State GDP and its waterways are fine.
Mr. Cuomos real purpose is to eliminate natural gas as part of his political commitment to carbon neutrality by 2050, and this isnt a cost-free promise. Upstate New Yorkers struggle economically and pay among the highest energy costs in the U.S. A quarter still rely on heating oil, which costs about $1,000 a year more than natural gas and emits nearly 40% more CO2. New Yorkers pay about 40% more for electricity than Pennsylvanians and 15% more than in New Jersey.
The utility Con Edison in March halted natural gas hookups north of New York City due to pipeline constraints. National Grid, the gas utility that serves Long Island, this fall imposed a moratorium on new hookups after the Governor vetoed a 23-mile gas pipeline beneath New York Harbor. National Grid said it couldnt guarantee uninterrupted service without the pipeline. New oil-to-gas conversions could cause future gas shortages and outages.
The Governors response: Who cares? The moratorium is either a fabricated device or a lack of competence, the Governor wrote to National Grid last week. Mr. Cuomo ordered the utility to explore short-term options to increase supply such as transporting natural gas by tanker or truck. Other infrastructure could be proposed or additional unloading facilities installed, he said.

If National Grid were smart, they would withdraw from the New York market. Given the current political climate and policies, it will be a disaster for the company and shareholders if they stay. There will be rate cuts, lawsuits and judicial ordered “remedies” that will bankrupt the company. Get out now.

DOES Fredo’s big brother understand the chemical make-up of natural gas?
Hey, if people are too stupid to realize that they are being lied to, then maybe they deserve what they get. That means frequent power outages and the inability to heat homes and businesses.... plus food and essentials shortages.
The problem is it hurts everyone. Including people who know what is going on.
Cuomo doesnt understand the chemical makeup of hydrogen.

You know how much New York state can make from fracking and natural gas production?
NY needs a major financial crisis to begin the process of fixing its politics.
Like the Soviet Union, it needs to collapse first.
The problem is that liberal states like California and New York brag about how green they are and refuse to admit that they get a lot of their power from out of state.
As long as you have legions of dimwits who are willing to blame business too, he’ll get away with it.
Sorry but suburban voters have elected Democrats and supported the vile Cuomo. There are consequences for stupidity. Those who can are leaving and have left suburban New York as their parents and grandparents left New York City when conditions became inconsistent with decent living. Sad that there are good people left behind who for whatever reason can’t leave and have to suffer the tyranny of the now decadent majority.
And the shortage hit faster than expected even by those who predicted it, how about that.
Agreed. Aren’t the property taxes horrendous in upstate NY? — to pay for ultra-liberal NYC.
National Grid should just Surrender their License and SHUT THE GAS DELIVERY OFF Completely to the entire State, they can ALL Freeze to Death in the name of Global Warming.
Yes & hydrogen is only a only a energy storage system, the only way to get it is to break down some chemical containing hydrogen (requiring the same energy you get when you burn the hydrogen, or more).
Stalin did it. Hobble the economy then shoot the managers.
One reason socialism does not work is because a central power attempts to control supply and demand from the top down. They can’t. There are too many variables.
Capitalism works because a businessman (looking for a profit) is able to make decisions on how to provide what a customer wants at a price they are willing to pay (bottom up). Then they find a way to do it (or they go out of business and someone else takes over).
Man made global warming is a back door to socialism. It is a way the government can get control of the people.
Democrats have embraced man made global warming since they see it as a way to rule the way they want.
In the end, California and New York (and other Democrat control areas) will fail. All they have right now is the media and the courts enforcing their mandates.
The media will never change, they will just become less relevant. The courts on the other hands will slowly be flipped to being more “conservative” and they will begin ruling in favor of the Constitution and the people.
New York state is heading for financial insolvency because of Cuomo’s short-sighted views. The state now risks a potential succession movement from upper New York counties.
Western new york could be enjoying an economic boom, but instead its an economic wasteland, all because they refuse to allow fracking.... Their loss.
From what I’ve read, too much pull on Nat Gas can depressurize large areas leaving everyone without gas.
