A Durham, New Hampshire celebration scheduled for the beginning of holidays is undergoing some changes this year in an effort to remove religious overtones.
Formerly called the Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony, the newly named Frost Fest will include the absence of a formal tree lighting. Santa will be at the event but he will not arrive in a town firetruck as he has in the past.
The wreaths that traditionally adorned lamp posts on Main Street will also not be present this year.
Town Councilor Sally Tobias says the changes came about after some controversy last holiday season. There was another private citizen that came forward and said that he had always had a problem with the Christmas tree, as he called it, Tobias said.
Rabbi Berel Slavaticki of the University of New Hampshire and Seacoast Chabad Jewish Center feels the changes are a move in the wrong direction.
To stop cultures and faiths from practicing publicly would be very un-American. I think thats the beauty of our country, Slavaticki said.
Slavaticki said he asked the town to display a Menorah during the eight days of Hanukkah last year but his request was denied.
The Supreme Court ruled in 1989 that the Menorah and the Christmas tree both represent the holiday winter season, Slavaticki said.

What about citizens who have an issue with homofascist supremacy flags hanging on lampposts for the month of June?
Doncha know? Christmas trees are politically incorrect.
Remember to say holiday trees lest the snowflakes and religiously allergic get triggered.
One. Jerk.
.
So ONE guy complains and you take down all the wreaths and strike the tree lighting ceremony? The stupid snowflake will survive.
Perhaps the councilman can resign if 2 people complain about his actions.
Christians should shun the “festival”, since it has nothing anymore to do with their religion, which has been specifically excluded down to the last verbal reference.
In our cancel culture, Christmas is as much of a fighting offense as Trump.
Shun it in polite company.

And October 27th is Diwali. Diwali, Deepavali, or Dipavali is the Hindu festival of lights, which is celebrated every autumn in the northern hemisphere (spring in southern hemisphere). One of the most popular festivals of Hinduism, Diwali symbolizes the spiritual victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance.
One person
One person?
Violation of the 1st amendment to practice religion.
I HATE liberals.
Removing religious overtones from Christmas. How quaint.
If the local politicians don’t get braver, soon there will be no acknowledgement of Christmas whatsoever. They must see the direction of this trajectory. That’s what the goal is.
It will then be replaced by something more pagan, like a Pink Globe or monument to a body part.
Liberals have no objection to it while they fight Christmas celebrations tooth and nail.
That controversy erupts every year. Like celebrating Christmas is a bad thing.
I’m glad they won’t have Santa arrive in the firetruck. Does everyone understand that the firetruck has an enormous carbon footprint? Good for them for realizing that they are helping fight global warming.
Sarcasm, I think it’s sarcasm anyway........

It starts with suppressing religion, and then out come the yellow stars.
I’m sure we can look forward to a time when these bozos sue to remove both Christmas and Good Friday as public holidays.
Come to Arizona’s Prescott and Prescott Valley’s Christmas celebrations. We take Christmas very seriously here.
