Every single plausible Democratic candidate for president has endorsed tax increases as centerpieces of their economic agenda. Think about what we are hearing from Elizabeth Warren, Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders, and the rest of the Punch and Judy Show. New wealth taxes, carbon taxes, energy taxes, higher death and income taxes with rates up to 70%. Payroll taxes would rise to pay for Social Security benefit expansions and Medicare for All.
I remember a time when liberal Michael Dukakis, when running against George H.W. Bush, declared he would only raise taxes as a last resort. Now Democrats think raising taxes on employers, investors, companies and the wealthy is some kind of badge of honor and the option of first resort. They also recite a few outlier economists who tell them what they want to hear: Tax rates of 50 percent to 70 percent or more wont hurt the economy at all. Yes, and Elizabeth Warren is of Indian descent.
Meanwhile, Mr. Trump and the Republicans in Congress have the 2017 tax cut to trumpet a reform that by almost any objective measure has worked better for workers and middle class families than we even expected. Middle class incomes have hit an all-time high as has the stock market and employment. Tax revenues are also higher than ever before with the tax cut in place.
But voters are always wondering what comes next. Mr. Trump and the Republicans need a new tax cut plan just as a rock n roll band whos album has just gone platinum needs a new album out next year.
The fact that Democrats are so open about their lust for higher taxes, makes the case for a Republican tax cut, even stronger. In politics it is always wise to paint in bright colors.

Once the last round really kicks in we’ll be running a surplus.
He can push all he wants, it requires congressional approval, and as you know they are ‘out to lunch’ till 2020 election.
What happened to infrastructure?
No, now is the time for Trump to demand SPENDING CUTS!!!!!
Tax cuts result in revenue increases so we need to do both spending cuts and tax cuts. All tax cuts are good.
How about some cuts to .gov? Ya can’t drain the swamp while increasing the funding every year.
Dems decided to impeach instead. The idea of Trump being credited for fixing bridges, modernizing airports subways systems nation wide was too much for them to stomach. That’s really what all of this comes down too. They didn’t want it to be Trump to fix things. Especially because he made fun of them, said they were do nothings and that all of these things could be easily fixed. The same is true on the Repuke side. They are ALL trying to destroy Trump because of their own pride.
Here's something else to consider:
Meanwhile, Mr. Trump and the Republicans in Congress have the 2017 tax cut to trumpet a reform that by almost any objective measure has worked better for workers and middle class families than we even expected.
That measure worked so well for workers and middle class families that the GOP lost control of the House in 2018.
Focus on tax cuts and other economic policies that actually BENEFIT VOTERS DIRECTLY.
Item #1 on the list should be an across-the-board cut in payroll tax rates -- both for employees AND employers.
It aint gonna happen. He cant get anything passed at this point.
Youre making my point
Stephen Moore is calling on Trump to push another tax cut. Of course that will go nowhere with Dem House - and its not a big vote winner anyway except with the donor class
I suggest pushing for infrastructure instead. Youre right, Pelosi wont cooperate, but the issue is a winner with the blue collar voters who put Trump in the White House. A good way to show them the Dems arent in their side
“No, now is the time for Trump to demand SPENDING CUTS!!!!!”
Correct.
Downsize federal employment. Hit Democrats where it hurts.
Alas, we are at the pinnacle of gridlock. There will be no new laws until 2021 at the earliest.

Problem with that is you deplete the Social Security funds, increasing pressure to cut Social Security. If you think cutting Social Security is a winner with average voters - including in the rust belt states that elected Trump - I urge you to think again
Instead of tax cuts Trump should finally propose infrastructure, as he repeatedly promised - to loud cheers - in his Rust belt campaign rallies in 2016.
And he should push removing seniors paying taxes on Social Security when they hit the maximum age. Yes if a senior needs to make extra money and they hit XXXXX amount after their retirement age they need to pay federal taxes.
$200 bil per year for two years, nothing but roads and bridges, puts ENORMOUS pressure on Dim’s Union flank.
And donor flank.
Call the pigs to the trough.
Yet in our bizarro world spending always surges ahead of the Laffer Curve. The idea of balanced budgets is such a quaint 20th century notion. As long as the dollar remains the world reserve currency, the Fed just hides the deficit on their balance sheet. SARCASM?
I agree. Tax cuts are needed and are a great help to the middle class. Voters really, really like tax cuts.
And as someone already mentioned, seniors need a break too. Those on fixed incomes are trying to manage rising rent, rising food prices, utilities, etc.
It’s very disheartening when this country sends billions of dollars to other countries all across the globe every year. And yet, we have to beg for tax cuts.
Because one trillion dollar deficits aren’t high enough in this economy?
