Politicians Won’t Be Allowed on Facebook If They’ve Previously Been Banned

Facebook has said it will not allow politicians to set up new accounts on the platform if they have previously been banned, according to a statement obtained from the social media company by Breitbart News.

Breitbart News reached out to Facebook after learning that the platform was blocking a Republican congressional candidate’s attempt to set up an official campaign page.

The candidate, Laura Loomer, is running in the Republican primary for the House of Representatives in Florida’s 21st district. She previously had her personal accounts on Facebook and Facebook-owned Instagram banned under the company’s “dangerous individual” policy. Loomer says the label is defamatory and is contesting it in court.

....

Her campaign attempted to set up a campaign page on Tuesday, providing Facebook with the required data from the Federal Elections Commission (FEC) to verify that she is a declared Republican candidate. Within hours of the account being set up by Loomer’s campaign, it had been blacklisted by Mark Zuckerberg’s company.

In response to a request for comment by Breitbart News, a Facebook spokesman confirmed that Loomer would not be allowed to set up a campaign page.

“People who have been banned from our services aren’t able to set up a new account even if they’re running for office,” said the spokesman.

In a speech last month, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg promised that his company would not censor politicians.

“We think people should be able to hear what politicians have to say,” said Zuckerberg. “I don’t think it’s right for tech companies to censor politicians in a democracy.”

Zuckerberg has also said he won’t ban ads from political candidates on his platform — but you need a Facebook account in order to run an ad.

They are sowing the seeds of their own destruction

Maybe, but if so that would not happen until after 2020.

In a mere 10 years, it went from upstart new social-media tech star to overbearing, corrupt, biased, boring monopoly.

These types of companies are like mayflied: they live but not for long. Among the young (let's say people under 30) Facebook is considered an old-fogie zone. They won't be joining. And so within the next 10 years it will die with its current business model. They need to come up with something other than tricking people into donating all their private information to them and then using it against their interests because the young have no interest in playing along.

“Who doesn’t have Facebook?!”

Those who, like me, did not comply when FB demanded an image of a passport or drivers license.

I’m not an expert on this subject. I haven’t read enough so here it goes, I think Facebook needs to be regulated as a public utility company. Same goes with Twitter. Free speech must be protected. Otherwise, they should be sued.

Facebook acts as if they are the only source worthy of news that they approve of.

Politicians and anyone else can go elsewhere to post what they want without the gestapo breathing down their necks.

And I do use other platforms like minds.com. I wish more voters did the same but too many don't even think about getting off. I would guess those people correlate with corporate media viewers (MSNBC etc), although there are conservatives still on FB.

I know some churches and charities that use it too, for a web presence they can afford, and many parents of Boomers, like me.

Leftists should be made to live by their own standards.

Federalize Facebook and the other big tech companies controlled by leftists.

Election interference to refuse to host the page of a registered candidate.

And yet a judge ruled that Trump can’t block spammers on twitter.

I went to an event with a wife and husband singing and playing guitars. During a break I asked how I could contact them. They game me their card that only had their facebook link. No phone number. No email.

There are people who believe everyone is on facebook and don't even bother to use any other means to reach or contact people.

Since I don't have a facebook account, I never contacted them.

Why would anyone limit themselves only to facebook?

“Why would anyone limit themselves only to facebook?”

Same reason they only watch CBS News.

Facebook-only web presence limits them greatly. Dumb approach. A website can be had cheap nowadays, like $5 a month. I got one just to have my own private email account.

In another 10 years, it will by MySpace, and about as relevant.
