ELK RIVER, Minn. - An Arbys restaurant in Minnesota quickly removed a sign saying that only well behaved children are welcome a notice that left one parent shocked.
Christine Hemsworth, a mother to three children, told KARE-TV that she had been to the Arbys in Elk River, Minnesota, several times, but this was the first time she had seen a sign like this.
Only well behaved Children who can keep their food on their trays and their bottoms on their seats are welcome. If you cant do this you will be asked to leave. Thanks, the sign said, with the word Notice printed on top of the message.
Hemsworth was with her 11-year-old and 2-year-old sons and 13-year-old daughter.
"I was like 'oh gosh,'" Hemsworth told the station. "I've got a 2-year-old with me and he doesn't always keep his fries on the tray or his bottom on the seat. He sometimes stands up."
She said she and her family still walked in to order food. Dinner went as planned and they were not asked to leave, but the mother said it was an uncomfortable and stressful meal.
"I was shocked to find a sign like that," she said. "It is a fast-food restaurant, it's not something with white tablecloths. It's supposed to be family oriented as far as I knew.
Arbys provided a statement to KARE-TV regarding the sign.
We recognize the language on this sign was insensitive. We removed it quickly, and have disciplined the manager and team working at the restaurant. It does not reflect our company values and the family-friendly environment we aim to provide in all of our restaurants, the restaurant said.
“Shocked” that your kids didn’t measure up?
My baby boy never did nuthin to nobody.
Im offended that this woman is offended!
Young children can be taught to sit and eat without running amok like wild animals and playing.
Mentally detached parents raise animals. It is also a contributing factor for why our schools are shitholes....no parental involvement.
We went to dinner last night and watched a group of little animals climb all over unoccupied booths. The parents made no attempt to teach them to behave.
Most folks go out to dinner to enjoy a nice quiet evening, not listen to children scream.
Kudos to the owner for putting the sign up. Shame on him for folding because some parents don’t do their job.
Bring Your Brat Day
I think where the manager went wrong was by specifying behaviors. A simple “Train ‘em or Chain ‘em” might have been better.
It’s actually about the parents. Parents who can’t say NO have bratty-a$$ rugrats.
Out of control brats are another reason I avoid public places as much as possible.
I would have been slapped into another week if I acted like the psycho kids today.
The rules of behavior stated on the sign should be the default mode in civil society. It shouldn’t have to be mentioned. Sadly, we’re no longer civil.
MAGA
A meal needs to be stressful and uncomfortable if your brats aren’t house broken. Better that you experience discomfort than the rest of the patrons when your children are wild and uncivilized.
Shocked that your kids didnt measure up?”
More likely ‘shocked’ because they listed to Dr. Spock and chose not to spank their kids, and now they have to deal with BRATS who aren’t welcome in public.
Good grief. Snowflake parents raise snowflake children. America is doomed.
I personally don’t mind when children are running around a restaurant.
Life is short and the sound of children playing and the sight of them goofing around brings joy to my heart.
Were I ever to run a restaurant (again,) I would rarely if ever chastise parents with unruly kids.
Also, frankly, one never knows what children go through. I myself had every privilege in life with a few exceptions such as money problems and a broken family.
Some children suffer much worse and a night out at Arby’s might be a dream come true.
Maybe, sometimes, they just can’t contain their happiness.
I will always give a child the benefit of the doubt.
Won’t you?
Home video from the Thuneberg family?
Arby’s wants to be Popeye’s.
