Schiff Threatens Republicans: Don't Criticize the Whistleblower During Public Impeachment Hearings..

Full title: Schiff Threatens Republicans: Don't Criticize the Whistleblower During Public Impeachment Hearings or Else

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff is threatening Republican lawmakers ahead of the first public impeachment inquiry hearing on Wednesday and warning that any criticism of the whistleblower could prompt an Ethics Committee investigation. Schiff is also going out of his way to protect the Biden's from scrutiny.

"As explained in my November 9, 2019, response to the Ranking Member, it is important to underscore that the House's impeachment inquiry, and the Committee, will not serve as venues for any Member to further the same sham investigations into the Bidens or into debunked conspiracies about the 2016 U.S. election interference that President Trump pressed Ukraine to undertake for his personal political benefit," Schiff wrote in a memo to the Committee laying out the rules for the hearing. "Nor will the Committee facilitate any efforts by President Trump or his allies to threaten intimidate, or retaliate against the whistleblower who courageously and lawfully raised concerns about the President's conduct."

Whistleblower started Trump-Ukraine matter, framed issue in way House Dems have adopted for impeachment. Now Chairman Schiff orders GOP: Do not talk about whistleblower in impeachment hearings. If you do, you'll hear from Ethics Committee. http://ow.ly/MrCy50x8W76

Despite Schiff's assertions and threats, asking simple questions about bias or political connections of a whistleblower isn't "intimidation" or "retaliation." Further and as Matt has detailed , there is no law that prevents the name of the whistleblower from becoming public. There's certainly no law that prevents Republican members of Congress from talking about a whistleblower in broad or specific terms during congressional hearings. This is especially true given this "impeachment" inquiry was launched by a whistleblower -- who with second hand knowledge -- claimed a July 25 phone call President Trump had with Ukrainian President Zelensky was inappropriate.

Every Rep on the committee should mention his name.

We must, indeed, all hang together or, most assuredly, we shall all hang separately.

I agree. I don’t think any Republicans should attend such a farce.

Are there not going to be any House Managers as in the Clinton impeachment? I haven’t heard a word about that. I don’t even know if we’re still in the “inquiry” stage or where we are. But heck - I don’t think piglosi or shifty know either. Maybe the House Managers didn’t get involved until a hearing was set before the ENTIRE House membership.

The Dems want this in the "Court of Public Opinion" only.

They want to control that narrative with the MSM.

This is all they have, hence This only an inquiry...

Shiff’s attempts to hide and shield the “Whistle Blower” constitutes actual obstruction of justice.

Well said.

We all know Schiff isn't the brightest bulb in the fixture but it's hilarious he doesn't realize the fool he's making of himself.

Every Republican worth a spec of salt should start right out by mentioning the CIA operatives name. Let crooked Schiff put them all under an ethics investigation. Lets see how that works out.

In 12 months the Dems lose their majority and may not get it back for a long time to come. The new speaker (McCarthy) gets to sign off on committee assignments. I expect him to reject Schiff for ANY committee assignment. Technically, Schiff could be expelled from Congress, but that takes a 2/3 vote IIRC.

"Every Rep on the committee should mention his name. We must, indeed, all hang together or, most assuredly, we shall all hang separately."

Agree completely. This is nothing but a kangaroo court and the GOP attempting to participate only gives it the appearance of legitimacy. The GOP should defy Schiff with every word, disrupt the process, denounce the spy and Schiff's involvement with the unnamed one and force Schiff to try and remove them. If Schiff tries anything else, the GOP members could walkout dramatically one by one and throw papers down as they leave, and whatever else they can think of to discredit the process. If they just play Schiff's game, we all lose.

He cannot re write the rules the house operates under

Of course he can. The rules are whatever the majority says they are.

Senate presidential contenders can’t campaign

Of course they they can, and will. They'll pop in once in a while for the cameras.

Hey, gator. It's been a while since I hung out here on a regular basis. Now that I've been booted off Twitter for good I reckon I will be doing more of it.

I wonder if Schiff has any clue about how angry Americans are getting over this impeachment nonsense. Not just the long-term MAGAs, but all the normals. We have a long tradition of fair play and equal justice in this country. Schiff is rubbing that in our faces. I don't see it ending well for his side.

I think the Senate should do full discovery and interrogate people under oath in public.

The little tinpot dictator Schiff... if he was all that confident, why does he need to railroad the President?

Democrats are afraid of the truth. No wonder they can’t talk about their star witness and the Bidens.

All they have left are Mafia tactics.
