California has had an Armenian population in the San Joaquin Valley for a long, long time. They were fruit growers, and fled here before the Turks could cut their heads off...
Read William Saroyan, a wonderful but now forgotten writer, who focused on tales of his Armenian American community. I still remember The Human Comedy, about a boy who delivers telegrams...and the terrible delivery of a telegram from the front in WWII to the family of a fallen soldier.
Great writer, horrible person, according to Walter Matthau, who married Saroyan’s ex-wife.
My grandparents are in this population.. I grew up in the next little town over from Victor Davis Hanson during the same time as he....back when CA was a great place to live.
