Taking on the bear issue [ Colorado ]
Delta County Independent ^ | Nov 8, 2019 | Gary Hubbell

Colorado has a bear problem. Pure and simple, we have too many bears.. When I was a kid growing up .. my brother and I spent a lot of time in the woods. We were hiking, backpacking, exploring, hunting and climbing around all the time in the high country. Never once did we see a bear. I clearly recall the first time I ever saw a bear in the woods, and I was 31 years old, in 1993. Not too long after that, I took over the outfitting permits in Marble, Colorado, and I remember one day when I saw seven bears. Three of them were on my neighbor’s front porch.

...

Ask any outdoorsman, and they’ll tell you that the bears are out of control ... They’re brazen as hell,” he said. “I’ve walked up on about 15 different bears this archery season. Two of them were practically underfoot. I mean, they got up a couple of feet away. They just stand there and look at you

...

Many residents of mountain towns will tell you the same thing — bears are everywhere.

...

Colorado Parks & Wildlife recently posted the results of a study that showed Colorado has more than double the number of bears than they, the masters of wildlife wisdom, thought we had.

...

bears snack on fawns and elk calves like you snack on hors d’oeuvres at a cocktail party.

...

How did this happen? In 1992, those on the Front Range sponsored an amendment to the Colorado Constitution to ban spring bear hunting.. traditional methods of bear hunting

...

So, you say, what’s next? Wolves. Yes, wolves. The same cadre that won the hearts and minds of all the Front Range liberal voters is aggressively pursuing wolf introduction to Colorado.

Pretty sure the bears have always been there. You just see a lot more of them when bowhunting. That said, they need to be hunted with hounds, to keep them afraid of contact with man.

You should organize and promote Nature Hikes for PETA members in to the Wilderness to marvel at the Bears, maybe they can become snacks,.

This is what happens when socialists leave their dying host (California) and move into other areas, infesting it with their lack of intelligence and education (no matter what pedigree they hold).

They ban bear hunting and then cannot understand that bears can become a nuisance if overpopulated.

Environmentalists know nothing about the environment.

my family and I were in Estes Park CO last month; wanted so much to see a bear, saw none. We saw moose, elk, mule deer but no bears.

It is likely part of the LIB nitwit plan to reduce human population because humans are a bane to the planet. These LIB malignancies are relentless in pursuit of their anti-human goals through endless wars, abortion, homosexuality...and now bears

When I grew up in northern Michigan I had a couple uncles who were hard core bear hunters with their dogs. Fortunately uncle Hylon was a veterinarian and he was able to patch up the dogs that got injured....

Pure and simple, we have too many bears..

Nah...you got too many humans...there's your problem.

Eeking, squeeking and squealing liberal snowflakes that recoil in horror from any encounter with a REAL native of the land.

They'd solve it by having someone else (not themselves, of course...and please, do it out of sight and quietly) kill all of the bears except for a few for display purposes on their silly ass Christmas cards or Instagram profile pages.

Give me a damn break.

Stupid assholes that scream out against hunting and harvesting these animals in a sane and humane manner, now pee their designer pants over having to share the same space with the icky creatures.

I don’t think we have as many bear hunters as we used to. I’ve taken one bear and that was in Arizona back in the 80’s, we were using dogs. I’m not sure Colorado allows dogs but even if they did the old dog hunters are a dying breed. Not even sure they if they allow baiting which is another method of taking bear.

There are houndsmem that become well-practiced in stitching up their dogs, without benefit of veterinary training. Poor dogs. :)

Both are now banned for subjects to use.. Government can still use dogs.

Also, the USFS & BLM have vacated many grazing allotments - thus sheep herders & cowboys are not controlling the predator populations as much.

Well....Are there more bowhunters, and people in Colorado, today? Hell, if I could afford it, I’d be there. Cover your scent with elk urine, move stealthily through the woods in proximity to elk, and blow a cow call, and you WILL see bears. Some you get close to, some come looking for you, with a meal in mind. Would fewer bears be better? Probably. Not sure about COs bear hunting regs.

Nope, the bear population, along with wolves and cougars is up nationwide.

Sure, they’ve always been there, but not in the out of control numbers of today.

When liberals outlaw the only methods that can keep them in check bad things happen.
