What’s motivating him and all of them is fear. They are up to their eyeballs in crime and sedition. They thought Trump would fold, as GWB always did, and not pursue their crimes. So all of these stunts - the Mueller “investigation,” various other lesser Dem eruptions, and now this impeachment sham - are essentially “the best defense is a good offense.”
I think they’re seriously worried about being held accountable and even if they can’t get him out, they want to make it impossible for him to proceed against them.
