As cases of vaping-related illnesses reach 2,051, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has announced a breakthrough in the search for a cause the first identified toxicant: vitamin E acetate.
The news comes in a study released Friday in the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, which analyzed fluid from the lungs of 29 patients with e-cigarette or vaping product use associated lung injury (EVALI) in 10 different states. While the majority of those analyzed tested positive for either THC (82 percent) or nicotine (61 percent), the only substance to be universally detected in every sample was vitamin E acetate.
These new findings are significant because for the first time we have detected a potential toxin of concern, Anne Schuchat, MD, principal deputy director of the CDC said on a call with reporters Friday morning. These findings provide direct evidence of vitamin E acetate at the primary site of injury within the lungs and the samples reflect patients from states across the country to date.

No other potential toxins were detected in the testing conducted so far, Schuchat said.

Out here in the world this has been known the whole time.
JUUL doesn’t know this?
They have Plenty-O-Buck$ to figure this stuff out.
But I thought almost all of the illnesses involved vaping THC from black market products. How come the people vaping nicotine with Vitamin E oil from quality retail products are not causing illnesses?
I am so confused.
I feel so much better about breathing in all kinds of chemicals into my lungs, knowing that if I just avoid vitamin E acetate, I might not die.
/s
I’ll bet that they also found Dihydrogen Monoxide in every single sample. What does that prove?
We need the CDC to tell us that sucking vaporized oils into your lungs is a dumb idea?
Weed (CBD) good for you.
Vitamin E bad.
Got it.
I cannot imagine much oil doing well in your lungs.
Not as safe as those who rushed this crap to market said...
You won’t be able to breath and die if you smoke cooking oil also. A layer of any kind of oil toxic or not between air and Alveoli is deadly, may as well be drowning.
I wonder if olive oil is the answer? Olive oil cleans grit and grime out of almost everything.
Yep, any kind.
Interesting, today I went to see a doc who deals with cancer every day. He said that he tells every patient on chemo to use marijuana. This guy is double board certified.
But I did not ask him about vitamin E acetate.
Do you have any experience cleaning things?
Yep.
Anyone whos had a hydraulic hose explode on them knows that breathing atomized oil isnt healthy.
Never use oil in a vape. Only water based food grade liquids.
Depends? As in cleaning what?
I have an uncle who is currently going through chemo.
He has lost a lot of weight (he wasn’t a big guy to start with) because it made him so nauseous.
I have suggested to him that he look into medical marijuana. It is used in those situations because it gives the patient “the munchies” which helps to overcome this.
I do believe there are legit medical uses for the stuff. I just don’t buy the hype from all the billboards claiming that regular use is good for you.
Instead of spending whatever it takes, why doesn’t he just give whatever she wants to Lizzy?
Shhh! You’ll ruin the narrative!
