Today, Im a super proud member of the LGBTQ+ community, but the journey to get here wasnt easy. I was outed at school by someone Id trusted as a friend before I was ready to tell my own story. It was a really vulnerable time for me, and I felt ashamed to be myself even in the fairly progressive area where I live. I spent a lot of time with these feelings, thinking really deeply about why I had so much fear about coming out. I felt different and marginalized, whereas before, Id never felt anything but normal. It was a big jolt, and it didnt feel good.
But its no wonder that in a world where almost all books and movies center around straight characterseither featuring no LGBTQ+ characters at all or sometimes shoving them to the edges as stereotyped sidekicksthat being queer could make someone feel like they dont deserve the spotlight. Lack of representation can make people feel invisible, or like they should be. Ive been there, and its a real problem with serious consequences.
The Girl Scout Gold Award is all about stepping up and bravely filling a need in your communityand my community desperately needed better representation. So even though storytelling was outside my comfort zone (Im a science and tech girl to my core!), I had to put myself out there and do what I could to make a difference. That meant founding and becoming the editor of Glitterary, a digital literary magazine thats both for and by LGBTQ+ youth.
The stories collected and featured in Glitterary Magazine span all genresscience fiction.....
Beyond that, I make sure the queer people in our stories dont just look or act one specific way. Just like there are five-plus letters in LGBTQ+...

Even in the progressive area where I live, where nobody cares if I’m gay, I still wanted to maintain an oppressed status.
All I’m going to want for Christmas would be one day a week where Gay Matters were NOT the main trending topics.
Can we ever return to that time?
Only question to ask these people.
I was a Brownie about 100 years ago, and totally hated scouting. Now? I’d probably whack them all over the head with my broom. Of course, I never buy girls scout cookies. And neither should you.
What world is that?
Technicolor yawn here as well.
I knew a girl scout that ate a brownie.
Maybe rhe one where reality exists and they are <1% of the population
Can we please go back to the world where they make up an appropriate 1% or less percentage?
.
Why cant they just form the It Scouts and leave normal people alone?

What the hell? This crap is absolutely EVERYwhere.
For what it's worth, Trail Life USA is eating the Boy and Girl Scouts' lunch.
The Girl Scouts has been controlled by lesbians for a while now. Prime grooming and recruiting ground.
No, you felt shame at the perversion of yourself that you tried to hide, then tried to justify, rather than rejecting.
[What the hell? This crap is absolutely EVERYwhere.]
A sign of the times. Tagline.
Im shocked that any conservative who is even half sentient has been buying GS cookies in the past decade.
The same with Boy Scout popcorn. I tell them that I dont support faggot organizations.
