Mississippi Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves (R) will ascend to the state's top job after winning a contentious and competitive race for governor in one of the most conservative states in the country.
With 93 percent of precincts reporting, Reeves led Attorney General Jim Hood (D) by a 53 percent to 46 percent margin. The Associated Press projected Reeves would win the race.
While Mississippi has long been conservative, it has only recently become a reliably Republican state, as ancestral Democrats abandon their old party. Reeves will be the third consecutive Republican governor; Democrats have controlled the governor's mansion for only four of the last 25 years.
Still, Reeves faced a close race against Hood, the state's longtime attorney general and one of the few remaining Democrats to hold statewide office in a Southern state.

Shoulda been a slam dunk for any republican practically- sad thaT it was close!
What? No?
A Decisive win against a Democrat who already won a state race already.
got my threads mixed up- thought this race was a squeaker too- that’s what happens when i speed red threads-
He ran as a Pro-gun, anti-abortion Democrat.
wow really? That’s unusual for a dem- wonder if he believes it or just ran on it hoping to win in a red state?
It wasnt close; Reeves won by seven points. Most people would call that a blowout. And, as in Kentucky, GOP swept the down ballot races. Same thing happened in Louisiana as well. But MSMincluding Foxis still agog over Hoods seven point loss.

....
WTF is it with some of you people? You seem to get off on pessimism! We won!
Not sure why responses like yours even surprise me any more.
see my last response0- i got my threads mixed up-
Another sucky election night.
OT, but, what happened in Virginia? Why did Ds do so well in state races?
but thanks for the update on the down ticket in kentucky- that’s more encouraging-
Outside money, immigrants, fraud.
When a Democrat wins by 7 points it’s a blow out. When a Republican wins by 7 points it’s a “competitive” “close race”.
I think all in all, we did great...we won Kentucky except for Matt Bevin who I heard was not popular. We kept Mississippi and in CT we flipped a few small cities and kept the mayor’s office in Danbury, New Britain and we flipped a few small towns, too...
Russ- I explained in a post above i had the threads mixed up- i had two threads open- this one and the one about Kentucky- and i thought i was responding to the Kentucky thread- disregard my post complaining about it not being a slam dunk for republicans- that was meant for the Kentucky thread-
we also kept most of Kentucky- so that’s cool- but my complaint was that we’re in record low unemployment, record jobs growth, record minority job growth and record low unemployment, and i can’t wrap my head around why some states think something along the liens of “ENOUGH with making America great- We’re sick of record low unemployment, record job growth, etc- and now We want to go back to the liberal hell hole of yesteryear” and vote in democrats- Especially in republican states- or what used to be republican states, before obama flooded them with somalies, muslims and illegals
They’ve been going liberal steadily over the past decade or so- mostly anyways- they are a lost cause- I think a lot of liberals must flock there for some reason- likely because they can’t afford to live in the ultra liberal states like NY California etc-
