I suspect there are a few more variables to consider.....
The healthcare “issue” which is addressed down thread and the teachers union which no one has mentioned.
There was a teacher on Faux news early Tuesday morning mixed into the people some reporter was talking to at some diner in Kentucky. She was whining about having to use 12 year old History textbooks putting the blame squarely on Bevins.
Too bad the dumbazz reporter didn’t dig deeper into that one as I would imagine the 12 year old History books are considerably more accurate than the new “revised” ones.
The GOP is the only other viable nation-wide party. It holds out hope to its base that it will end the madness that the Dems have wrought on this country. But secretly, it sympathizes with the Dems and ultimately refuses to end the nation’s leftward march into oblivion.
With the election of Trump and his repudiation by the GOP leadership, the truth is in the open that the GOP establishment are largely sympathizers for the D-Team. It can’t be business as usual going forward because the GOP base will no longer drink the kool-aid their leadership put before them. The GOP establishment must follow Trump’s example and keep its promises to uphold the values of the base that supports it or it will be broken as a nation-wide party.
...I suppose this is a roundabout way of agreeing with you about the state of affairs. I just think it’s a mistake for Trump to go to war with the party. Trump is ready to work with anyone who works with him. He heads the party, so the party leadership should be the ones to work with him. It they persist with an “orange man bad” perspective, they’ll proudly walk themselves over a cliff on their own without Trump having to encourage them with renouncing the party.

Well, actually, despite the media narrative (and losing the governorship gives them a predicate to use while ignoring everything else), this was one of the strongest pro-Republican electorates to ever turnout in a state election in Kentucky. The down ballot was swept - and in most cases by landslide margins - including capturing the AG’s office, which has not been held by a Republican in 70 years. It has perhaps been even longer since we have held all of those down ballot offices. Bevin’s loss was personally about Bevin - he defeated himself.
The above is a quote from a newsletter I received in my email today. I am a state employee and belong to the State Employees' Association of North Carolina. They generally back Dem governors, but Cooper's actions today are putting that in jeopardy! He took care of his personal lobby, the NEA, but has totally shafted the rest of us. All the Republicans need is ONE Dem Senator to override Cooper's veto of the original budget. Word is that he is keeping them in line by threatening to find and financially support some one to run against them. This causes them to vote against the best interest of their constituents. Anyone from NC who is represented by a Dem Senator should be inundating them with calls encouraging them to vote to override his veto. All of this is because the original budget did not include his pet project of expanding Medicaid.

The lower wages while the demand for employees is high is causing a huge shortage of people leaving government employ. My wife just retired from her government job and was offered close to double pay in private work.
Yes I have learned that since. Bevin was a totally useless POS.
The unfortunate thing is that policy wise, he was mostly great. He screwed himself with his behavior...but that also means he screwed us as well as we lose his conservative policies that have been good for the state and get a left-wing governor. Beshear is not the typical “good ole boy” Democrat - he’s a true far left-winger.
