“This is the time for Mexico, with the help of the United States, to wage WAR on the drug cartels and wipe them off the face of the earth,” he wrote on Twitter.
Trump’s remarks were sparked by news of American citizens getting slaughtered in Mexico, after getting caught in the crossfire of a cartel battle in the border state of Sonora. Relatives have said at least nine U.S. citizens were killed including six children of which two were seven-month-old twins, according to CBS News.
Trump urged Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador to ask for his assistance.
“If Mexico needs or requests help in cleaning out these monsters, the United States stands ready, willing and able to get involved and do the job quickly and effectively,” Trump wrote.
The president has campaigned on tackling criminal activity on the border, including the drug cartels. During an exclusive interview with Breitbart News in March, he said he was “very seriously” thinking of designating the drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations.
“It’s psychological, but it’s also economic,” Trump said at the time. “As terrorists — as terrorist organizations, the answer is yes. They are.”
On Twitter, Trump suggested that Mexico needed American power to wipe out the cartels.
“The great new President of Mexico has made this a big issue, but the cartels have become so large and powerful that you sometimes need an army to defeat an army!” he wrote. “We merely await a call from your great new president!”

Troops? Covert US Special Forces make drug cartel leaders disappear. Read a Tom Clancy novel.
And that is what it is, a novel.
Jeesh I cant believe the folks on her who believe this would be a cakewalk.

Gosh....better not then. We don’t want to get a boo boo down south.Unless its a ‘cakewalk”.....we should just not do that nasty ‘make the boarder’ safer thing.
Don't buy it. They all answer to the Mexican cartel bosses. Take them and their lower leadership out through clandestine Spec-Ops/drones and their the subsidiaries would fold.
If walls were a perfect solution we wouldn’t need a Navy and an Air Force.

As I said upthread unless we go in WWII style there would be major bloodshed and another 20+ year war.
Wait until the Mexicans in the US plant IED,s car bombs in suburban, assorted terrorist attacks America and they would because as pointed out by another poster the US is the great Satan to Mexicans in general.
The way to do it - which incidentally is the most difficult, because, you know (as you mentioned) CIA, et al - is to freeze bank accounts. But that would mean major US banks as well, so there's potential blow-back to the US economy.
It really is a bit of an intractable situation, because the entirety of the MX economy is based on low tech, subsistence farming. Drug cultivation earns a premium, which provides a bit more cash cushion for both growers, and a key source of foreign exchange for the banks.
If Trump attacked via financial/banking mechanisms, the economic heart attack that resulting in MX would send millions of refugees north to the USA. If Trump attacked militarily, he has two additional problems in addition to the economic hit: civilian collateral damage (don't think the cartels would start executing peasants and blame it on the US, you know, like the old "wedding" attacks?); and of course an affront to MX patriotism.
The only way to do this right is to help advance the MX economy to the point where it wouldn't have to be dependent on growing drugs. That is, more money could be made in new segments rather than traditional subsistence drug crops. So, what industry would that be in a world where low IQ, lazy Mexicans could compete? Hi tech? LOL Autos? LOL Garment trade? LOL
Think people, think! What does MX have that is the envy of the rest of the world? That's right, real estate. But what is preventing the largest real estate land boom in the history of the world from occurring? Prohibitive MX rules, including restrictions by non MX citizens to own coastal real estate.
So, here's the deal (hopefully Trump people are reading this): you need to offer a carrot along with a stick. The stick is freezing bank accounts and going fully medieval on the cartels and entrenched gov't operatives. The carrot is to open MX real estate up to the billions of Americans, Euros, Indians, Chinese, Japanese and MENA that would literally flood the countries beaches and beautiful mountain regions with development projects the size/scope never seen before.
Taking out the bosses of the cartels is a game of Whack-a-Mole. Cartel bosses get taken down on a constant basis. Blow up one in his hacienda and four underlings and five rivals start shooting at each other to take his place. As long as there’s vast sums of money to be made, someone is going to keep making it. Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if, in the same way the cartels have corrupted the Mexican military, they end up corrupting the US military if we go in there. There’s just too much money.
yep
Or Coast Guard for that matter. People don't understand that not all Cartel drugs come in across the border.
Again my solution if the new Mexican President allows: Spec-Ops teams and drones in a continual sweep against the Jefes and their wanna-be subordinates. It worked with al-Qeada and with ISIS. Kill the leadership and the organization tends to fall apart. Anyone who finds a new plan to ascend to the throne, kill them ASAP.
good. maybe that’s what we need. everyone fighting in the war for a change.
Do you really think Trump would go in half assed? lol
It would be full throttle and overwhelming.
“Do you really think Trump would go in half assed? lol

A Declaration of War would have to be enacted first if going all out and this does not meet the definition of war by any stretch.
I saw it - mostly good - not for children, of course (warning to parents out there)
The issue of drug producing crops in Mexico may not be unsolvable. Coca is not grown in Mexico, and the price of heroin has dropped dramatically in part because of fentanyl taking it’s place. I’m sure the remaining poppy fields would be easy to identify and target.
All the globe's trouble spots are in areas that have very poor to no border control. Look at a map - there's no way to prevent the flow of arms, people, etc, which is why central government forces cannot control the territory. So, since government really doesn't exist, it takes a foreign power like the US - and UK, France, Russia and Turkey before us to impose order. As such, there's also no blow-back from any offended parties (other than the terrorists) because there's no there, there.
MX, OTOH, is just like a narrower version of the US. In fact, their southern border is extremely easy to police. So, regardless of what people may imagine MX to be like, it really is a functioning, centrally controlled government. Just a crazy, wild west corrupt version, but certainly operating in control.
The **problem** is, however, that the functioning MX government and economy is based on the drug trade. So the issue is economic, not religious, not anti-colonial, not any of the list of traditional 3rd world grievances, but rather simply the question of: what will Mexicans do to earn a living if the drug trade is impacted?
Get it? The challenge for Trump et al is to figure out a way for MX to transition its economy away from easy money drugs to something a little more substantial. And that, to anyone who's ever been down there and comes back with the same question, is: why isn't MX developing it's vast treasure trove of beautiful real estate? And the answer is prohibitive rules & regs, including laws against non MX citizens from owning coastal real estate.
Fix that, and who would waste time plying the drug trade when there would be vast $trillions to be made developing vacation/residential haciendas for the billions of Chinese, Indians, etc that would rush the country?
Unfair to Navy Vet, (red herring) he was talking about cartels in Mexico.
I agree with him, we need to take out the cartels there in Mexico. Besides, posse comitatus, can't do that here.
Where are the beach houses? Where are the private, gated communities? In Calif, these properties would have homes avg $10m. But in Baja, there is literally around 3,000 miles of empty, undeveloped coastline. With little to no work available, doesn't it make sense peasants would either try to migrate to the USA, or grow drug crops for the cartels?
And what to illegals do when they reach Calif? Yep, they go to work in gated communities here located on prime coast real estate, rather than stay put in their own country doing the same exact thing.
Yeah, that’s the ticket. Convince Mexicans that the best way to end drug violence is to sell off large areas of their country to foreigners. I’m sure they’ll jump all over that plan.
MMGA !!!
+++++
CUTE!!! And clever.
The solution is to legalize and let people make their own bad choices. It’s the only solution that would end the cartels.
