“This is the time for Mexico, with the help of the United States, to wage WAR on the drug cartels and wipe them off the face of the earth,” he wrote on Twitter.
Trump’s remarks were sparked by news of American citizens getting slaughtered in Mexico, after getting caught in the crossfire of a cartel battle in the border state of Sonora. Relatives have said at least nine U.S. citizens were killed including six children of which two were seven-month-old twins, according to CBS News.
Trump urged Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador to ask for his assistance.
“If Mexico needs or requests help in cleaning out these monsters, the United States stands ready, willing and able to get involved and do the job quickly and effectively,” Trump wrote.
The president has campaigned on tackling criminal activity on the border, including the drug cartels. During an exclusive interview with Breitbart News in March, he said he was “very seriously” thinking of designating the drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations.
“It’s psychological, but it’s also economic,” Trump said at the time. “As terrorists — as terrorist organizations, the answer is yes. They are.”
On Twitter, Trump suggested that Mexico needed American power to wipe out the cartels.
“The great new President of Mexico has made this a big issue, but the cartels have become so large and powerful that you sometimes need an army to defeat an army!” he wrote. “We merely await a call from your great new president!”

I don't agree with your premise. We wouldn't need an all out war with carpet bombing and Army divisions grunts going street to street. All we need is the Mexican President to give us infiltration privileges and clandestine location support (housing and such) and our Spec-Op teams can take these narco-terrorists out by stealth. It's no secret to PTB's where they live and where and how their supply system is.
No. It’s not doomed to fail, it’s a good idea. Clear out the cartels and their enablers.
Best idea I have heard yet. Just need brave cops. Some adrenaline junkies.
Yes. "
If you really wanna send a message SEIZE a bank or two where their money is laundered."
Good idea, but they use many ways of laundering money.
Boom, leftists heads explode
This is one worth waging rather than the other side of the planet nation building.
Does not a fortified wall solve this problem for the US?
Who cares about Mexico? We just seal it off.
US politicians on the cartel payroll won’t allow it

The Mexican President is in bed with the cartels.

You are right - the wall needs to be completed AND we need to ruthlessly eliminate those who feel free to murder Americans. Extreme prejudice is the only answer for these animals and if the corrupt Mexican government gets in the way then we need to kill some Mexican politicians.
I can’t be the only American tired of Mexico as a country.
Good point. Even without taking the complete wall sections down, a tracked vehicle could punch out those slat-bollards en masse. The fence is not designed necessarily to protect against heavy vehicle assaults and couldn’t be without raising the cost 10X.
Troops? Covert US Special Forces make drug cartel leaders disappear. Read a Tom Clancy novel.
Given the political and cultural state of Mexico (which is about as bad as any middle east s-hole), this (pipe-dream) approach is probably minimal if we (naively) expect a permanent solution to the current invasion of our Nation...
Yes, well armed, but not well trained. I'm guessing you don't know how well trained and successful our Special Operations men are trained. Why do you think the al-queda and ISIS have been decimated? Because of their arms and guerilla tactics? No, because our Special Forces, Delta, SEALS, and Rangers infiltrate and kill the leadership, and those who would be leaders.
You're comparing apples to oranges. Viet Nam was a war. This would be kill by design.
DEA, CIA, etc.....
Actually, the problem is also supply because growing drug crops is how a significant portion of the peasant population make a living. The culture of noblisse oblige has existed since Cortez. Before that, the Aztec master-servant/slave relationship was, shall we say, a bit more direct and visceral.
Regardless, the way it's worked for hundreds of years is the ruling class lives in opulent, dissipated luxury. The low collective IQ and paltry work ethic condemns MX economy to be exactly what it is and has always been: low tech, low skill, under developed "manana" land. Growing drugs is what they do best - it really is pretty much the entire economy.
So, you have this bifurcated society with Spaniards living easy, controlling government, media, finance and business. In return for impoverished lifestyles, the 90% mestizo population gets a lazy, poor existence in return for being left alone. All they have to do is put low effort into growing some crops, don't get involved in the distribution side, and the cartel ops leave them alone.
The cartel business brings in $billions, which keeps the government happy as the banks remain solvent. As long as the government can continue to subsidize basic foodstuffs like tortillas, then they don't have to worry about the underclass ever rebelling. Better, personal firearms (and ammo) are illegal to own, so the peasants have no way of ever mounting a rebellion, even they got charged up enough to do something about it.
Which they won't because the bottom line is that it's a very easy, relaxed lifestyle for everyone involved. The battle lines are drawn between cartels fighting over the spoils by the more ambitious MX citizens seeking to gain a little wealth. The ones already at the top and the ones permanently in the lower tiers seem pretty content.
You really don't think that between humint, satellite, radio/cell comm interceptions that the DEA and other agencies don't know where the bosses live? Hell, I could bring up a satellite photo of you house on Google. Either drones or Spec-Op teams could put a major hurt on the heads of the Cartels and their subordinates. It all depends on whether this new Mexican President is willing to take the risk.
“Troops? Covert US Special Forces make drug cartel leaders disappear. Read a Tom Clancy novel.”
And that is what it is, a novel.
Jeesh I can’t believe the folks on her who believe this would be a cakewalk.

As simple as finding those terrorist heads in the ME right? SMH
