Based on the precedent of the tobacco settlement, I expect the following are most likely to happen. First, some lawyers will enrich themselves with millions of dollars. Second, state and local governments will use the bulk of the money to supplement their various non-health-related budgets. Third, what little what is left will (hopefully) be used to help the addicts for whom most of the money was intended in the first place. I sincerely hope I am wrong with this prediction and most money will indeed go to help these sick individuals and to prevent further drug-related crises. We shall see.

It’ll go straight to SEIU.
Same thing that happened with the tobacco settlement. Nothing.
Probably all go to the Bidens, especially Hunter, and then on to the communist RAT party. /S
We will get to see tv advertisements for the next 20 years saying how you can get money with the help of the lawyers................
Obvious to even the less than casual observers.
99% to lawyers.
1% to folks who were actually harmed.
Questions?
The real problem is the illegal narcotics. Same thing with the vaping controversy. Practically all illnesses and deaths are from unregulated THC and other cartridges. You can’t sue the cartel and bogus companies but by God you can go after legitimate companies. And they will!
What will happen to it is the same thing that happens to the money extorted by any criminal enterprise. Most will go to enrich the extorters and their dependents (read buying votes and slipping paybacks to major contributors) Some will be spent on window dressing (i.e. social programs with top heavy bureaucracies), and some will go to increase the salaries and bonuses of the government employees involved in this shakedown.
The Asbestos Scam was the biggest $$$ slush fund ever created.
The workers effected from WW2 are all gone but its still is being used to create very rich law firms.
It is the model on all future slush funds on how to get very rich and not work hard.
The shameless shysters will take their usual gigantic cut, with the remainder going to the various states’ treasuries, where it will be used to prop up overpaid government employees’ pension funds and frittered away on public service announcements.
The governments will squander the money on stuff not needed and not authorized by their respective constitutions.
Basically, it will be used for political graft.
Pension and campaign money.
And the millions received wont provide one penny of relief for taxpayers.
Bill Klinton will volunteer to watch over it right away like he did with Haiti relief and make sure its distributed legally and fairly.
The politicians will see it as a slush fund for various pet projects, which often will enrich family and donors.
+1.
The drug companies will cover their overhead cost by increasing the prices of prescription drugs by billions of dollars. And doctors will be hesitant to prescribe opioids that would be deemed medically appropriate in the absence of state interference in the doctor’s medical judgment.
Like any other class action suit, some lawyer pockets $62 million, I get a coupon for two free car washes.
Of course defense lawyers make money and government lawyers have job security. That’s all the casual observer looks at.
I think if we look deeper, we will find government bureaucrats, many of whom are lawyers, illicitly pocketing the money. Questionable bonuses etc. I wonder if the government uses independent contract lawyers for these cases? Waste, corruption abuse and fraud are much worse in government because they operate in relative secrecy especially at the federal level.
Why did these guys like Comey become multimillionaire government salary? they got paid off in the private sector (Boeing for Comey) on boards and consulting probably for he “good” work they did while in government
