Our Post is down to three WWII members. We have not a good job in signing the Gulf War veterans - the Membership dates have been open since 9/11. Once the WWII & Korean vets are gone, we will be a much smaller organization.
I’ve been debating joining both the AL and the VFW for a number of years. On the one hand I would love to share with the brotherhood again. On the other when I speak with members I can tell that they are looking for “new blood” to take over existing activities and manage them...which I just don’t have the time to do.
I’ve had a member actually say that since I was an officer I should feel some obligation to join.
I know myself well enough to know that if I did join I would feel obligated to work on those things. However, I know that in the end everything, part of the groups and not part of the groups, would suffer from my split time.
