I’ve been debating joining both the AL and the VFW for a number of years. On the one hand I would love to share with the brotherhood again. On the other when I speak with members I can tell that they are looking for “new blood” to take over existing activities and manage them...which I just don’t have the time to do.

I’ve had a member actually say that since I was an officer I should feel some obligation to join.

I know myself well enough to know that if I did join I would feel obligated to work on those things. However, I know that in the end everything, part of the groups and not part of the groups, would suffer from my split time.

Definitely join - do what you can now and when the time comes take on more. Don’t be the Adjutant or 2nd Vice Commander. Those are the working jobs at the Post level - they handle membership, activities, running the Post etc.
