Commemorative coins minted to mark Brexit on 31 October will be "recycled" after the UK's exit from the EU was delayed by a further three months.

The Royal Mint had been asked to produce new 50p pieces featuring the UK's scheduled departure date.

Thousands of 50-pence coins minted to commemorate Brexit on Oct. 31 will be melted down after Prime Minister Boris Johnson accepted an extension from the European Union, two people familiar with the matter said.

Up to 10 million new coins were reportedly being made ready for the Halloween deadline, in a project championed by Chancellor Sajid Javid since he took office in July.

The coins were already being minted so they could be put into circulation as soon as the U.K. left the EU.

On Monday, Johnson accepted the EU’s offer of a three-month extension to Jan. 31, and the decision was taken for all the coins to be melted down,

Here’s an idea for you Brits - re-issue them as Forever Coins.

How about this, re-cast them as: “eff the little people and their referendum in the bum” coins.

Seriously, another three months just to re-do this again and vote again and again until Brexit is no more.

Eveything regarding Brexit is a farce isn’t it?

The coin image says “29 March 2019.” Was it already wrong?

It would be far more interesting just to restrike the new date on top of the current coin’s date.

Poor England. I feel sorry for all the Brits who long for their lost autonomy, but it occurs to me that this sort of looks like karma. Consider Scotland and the centuries they fought the English trying to win their autonomy as a country.

“ The Royal Mint had been asked to produce new 50p pieces...”

Which bureaucratic loon decided the Royal Mint should do this?

And since they’re just commemorative coins, what harm can there be in releasing them, as opposed to the cost of melting them down?

Just release them into circulation as permanent and numerous reminders of how uk politicians lie to the people.

The good thing is that Brexit makes Scottish independence and Irish reunification more likely sooner
