Wait, I thought the new Trumpian ideology was non-interventionist and non-nation-building? Are Latin Americans unable to solve their own problems???
And who says we have to let Latin Americans illegally migrate here after they fail to solve their own problems?
The argument seems to be we can be an interventionist, in our own neighborhood.
But you know what, when the chips have been down in the past, most all Latin American countries have not been with us. No matter our level of help, support and attempts to do good for Latin America, the U.S. is always resented by Latin American governments.
It’s because we’ve let Marxism flourish in Latin America for some 50 years, and Marxist states are simply unsustainable. Economically, politically...they can’t work, so as one falls apart, it looks for another country to take over and suck dry. I think there probably will be some serious conflicts between some of the states there, not to mention Mexico, which is so weak as a state it can’t even stand up to the drug gangs.
So I agree that we’ve got to pay more attention to it and regard it as a security challenge. Also, China is getting a toehold here, and they are far worse enemies than Russia.
I strongly suspect that the Chilean riots over a four cent fare increase are pure Antifa. Staged astroturf. The Global Left has had a burr up its saddle since Allende was removed in ‘72 and has been jonesing to get even for that ever since.
