TAMPA, Fla. — US special operations forces are using forward-deployed rapid DNA scanners on a limited basis to confirm targets. Troops have used DNA from improvised bomb components to capture “some very bad people,” according to an official with US Special Operations Command (SOCOM).
SOCOM is evaluating the devices for wider fielding. If successful, they have the potential to cut the time used to process DNA evidence from weeks to 90 minutes and replace fingerprint analysis downrange, according to Michael Fitz, SOCOM’s program manager for sensitive site exploitation.
They IDd him in the field very quickly.
If it is 3 years old, the technology has advanced since then in terms of time and detail. They can probably do it in half that time and knowcdomethung about his ethnicity or other details.
Military testing, civilian application.
Shows what clever marketing can do as opposed to passing a law making something compulsory.
Probably because they have the base line in hand.
They have also been able to gather DNA from IED’s and use it to create a profile of the bombmaker(s). Better than fingerprints...
I saw a report one of his kids or his siblings somewhere volunteered DNA. They had a baseline.
I was thinking they would have a test kit kind of like the field drug test kits where you add DNA, shake it and it turns color if confirmed.
With CRISPR it is conceivable you could design a test like that.
What they actually have is the size of a small copier and is a fully portable “Turbo Charged and Fisher Priced” DNA lab.
Impressive stuff.
Their fingerprint ID thing is the size of a cell phone. Won’t be long and they will make the DNA lab a lot smaller too.
“Scrape some of that grey matter of the cave wall for me, still ya? I’ll plug out into the machine.”
This also has a practical application of testing the rent-a-kids on the border crashers.
The Delta Team was on site for 2 hours collecting HDD’s, Cellphone’s, Laptops and other goodies that will give Us more details of the plans and other depraived crap the ragheadgoathumpingchildandadultrapists are working on so We can piss in their Kamel Krispies Cereal.
So they were going to be there 90 minuets anyway.
And in 6 months or a year they will have it down to 20 minutes probably. The stuff that the SOC Guys get is probably faster than 90 minuets but they don’t want Us to know that. Or Our enemies either.
