SAN FRANCISCO Facing down 600 wildfires in the past three days alone, emergency workers rushed to evacuate tens of thousands of people in Southern California on Thursday as a state utility said one of its major transmission lines broke near the source of the out-of-control Kincade blaze in Northern California.

The idea that fire could itself be used to help fight fire and restore ecosystems first gained institutional acceptance in the South. In 1958 a policy change was made to allow for the first prescribed burn in a national park, at Everglades National Park in Florida.
For some time, the practice remained anomalous outside of the South. But within the south, according to Nathan Klaus, a senior wildlife biologist with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, even private landowners would occasionally set smaller, controlled fires on their property.
Before the era of fire suppression, north Georgia around Brawley Mountain used to burn roughly every three to five years, according to Dr. Klaus. Those blazes allowed species that could withstand some fire, like the longleaf pine, to proliferate and flourish, shaping local ecosystems.

Grog’s fault!
These people are idiots, and they expect idiots to believe them. Which I guess dem voters are, so...
Well its into single digits for lows in the morning at my place and a little warming would be appreciated.
‘Said John Abatzoglou, an associate professor at the University of Idaho. We call it wildfire for reason its not domesticated fire.’

Im buying one day of food at a time.
They have these fires every year and next it will rain with mud slides , Oh and some Earthquakes just to shake things up
God is giving them a taste of their future.
Many areas where wild fires occur are NOT natural habitats for concentrations of humans. The populations in California have been expanding into areas where 100 years ago few people lived. Of course the fire disaster have more vicimts and cost more, which is euqally true in areas prone to get hurricanes.
Yes, there is a lot of bad land management involved, with stupidly poor land management of areas prone to have wild fires. But population growth in those areas is also a big part of how high is the loss of houses and other buildings.
California has historically waxed and waned between periods of wet years and periods of dry years, not for hundreds of years, for thousands of years. And southern California is “semi arid” meaning it is naturally part desert, and some areas have always been in state like not quite deseert but not very green either. Now so many of those places are hundredes of acres of tract homes, as if they could move the boudaries of the wild fires by sitting in their historic paths.
Because it not only forced the legalization of homo marriage for itself over the opposition of a majority of its citizens, it forced it on the whole nation.
It is now under God’s judgment.
Excellent post, thanks!
Indeed, when the Spanish first came to California, the local Indians told them they called the Los Angeles basin, “Valley of Smoke” due to fires there.
It is now under Gods judgment.
Colorado would be next then.
Learn to live with fire?
Interesting, that’s where these freaks are headed, a place where there is perpetual fire. It will make the CA fires look like the Arctic.
Who says some of the fires aren’t being deliberately set?
Eco-terrorists create this prediction that fires will increase because of GW, then they “helpfully” make it happen to try to brainwash the public, with Big Media playing along.
That’s what they did in BC in 2016 and 2017, deliberately started several hundred fires to make it look like GW was burning up the World.
Just sayin’ ... cuz it’s not like California doesn’t have a good share of eco-nuts ...
This is unadulterated bs. Fires are a fact of nature in California, and have been for many centuries. Most of those were started by lightning. Now, however, as population density increases, there are more fires started by humans and by human-related factors - like power lines.
Published on a day when record lows are sweeping much of the nation.
I would appreciate a little bit warmer winters.
The fires are because the environmental lobby halted forestry work 30 years ago. They stopped logging sales, removed fire roads to “return the forest to nature”. Destroyed the timber industry and blocked the use of weed killer to prevent brush overgrowth.
30 years later with no timber sales to pay for brush mitigation and thinning the forests are choked with brush and the second story trees are so dense that a normal fire crowns instead of creeping along the forest floor.
Global warming my ass, it was 57 this morning and the power is still off as it hit the mid 60s this afternoon. 3 days without power and now they say they they are going to shut it off again. Perhaps they should try turning it on first.
Who need refrigerators in Venezuela West? Most of the grocery stores do not sell perishable food at this point and 95% of the gas stations are down.
Insanity, Democrat is your name.
Every single Democrat needs to be voted out of office to save this Nation.
