Earlier this month, Insider Online got hold of the FBI Uniform Crime Report for 2018, and among the revelations is the slight decline in firearm-related homicides, which could force some fast-talking by the gun prohibition lobby.
Last year, the FBI report says there were 14,123 murders, of which 10,265 involved firearms. Back in 2017, by comparison, the FBI reported 15,129 slayings, including 10,982 committed with firearms.
According to FBI data, handguns are used in the majority of homicides, yet gun prohibitionists want to
ban semiautomatic rifles.
The FBI report says 6,603 of last years killings involved handguns, which is down from the 7,032 handgun-related homicides reported in 2017. Last year, rifles of any kind were identified as murder weapons in 297 murders, which is significantly lower than the 403 slayings with rifles in 2017, the year of the Las Vegas outrage that claimed 58 lives and left hundreds of others wounded.
Last year, shotguns were the weapons of choice in 235 murders, down from the 264 logged in 2017.
While it is not a rosy picture, stacked against more than 300 million privately-owned firearms in the hands of an estimated 100 million law abiding gun owners, the numbers sort of belie claims that the U.S. is in the grip of a gun violence epidemic.
Just to keep all this mayhem in perspective, last year saw 1,515 murders committed with knives or other cutting instruments. Thats more than twice as may people who were slain with rifles and

The homicide rate drops.
I’ve thought about the decline in overall crime and the use of debit/credit cards, rather than cash, is at least in part, one reason. Abortion is probably another. There are simply less feral human ghetto rats than in the 60s and 70s.
Cameras everywhere.
Also, the proliferation of fantasy crime solving TV shows, like NCIS.
It makes many people think about how hard it is to get away with a crime.
That’s true about cameras everywhere. The NCIS stuff has also made it much harder to win a case at trial. Oafs sitting in a jury now demand to see a trail of DNA from Jamal to Mrs Jones, after her head was crushed.
Another case where more is less. More guns sold less crime.
I read yesterday that Beto has been given a contract with Mexico to have the Cartels turn in all their ARs and AKs by 2020. He is considering a by back or confiscation. This will be a test case of course but give the guy a chance.
I noticed mass shootings stopped the instant dems got distracted with impeachment
I hope he gets right on that. lol

Well, smart people, anyway...
But even so, way to many dum basses commit strong-arm crimes against others.
If you were to travel to a random town and kill someone with whom you have no connection, chances are you’ll get away with it unless you leave some sort of hard evidence. It’s just not very difficult to get away with murder, unless you have a reason to kill someone and other people know about that reason.
Theres a ton of theories why all violent crime has dramatically decreased in the past several decades. Have no idea if any of them are true or not.
Ive heard:
Corresponds to the leaded gas/pipes/paints bans and replacements.
Corresponds to abortion becoming legal, as you suggest. The poorest populations are usually the most likely to commit violent crime, also the most likely to have abortions. Inner cities have had the highest abortion rates.
Corresponds to increase in obesity. Fat inactive people dont commit as much violence I guess.
Corresponds to decrease in outdoor activity and increase in electronic entertainment options. Sitting at home watching TV and playing video games instead of getting bored and entertaining themselves on the street.
The credit card thing seems plausible as well. Also the increase in incarceration rates.

***So even if Magic Flying Rainbow Unicorns swooped down and grabbed all the American citizen owned semi-auto long guns the Left would not get their wish. ***
From 1962 to 1986, the anti-gun forces said they “ONLY” wanted to register all guns and ban HANDGUNS. “RIFLES will not be affected!”
When they saw they could not get traction on a handgun ban, they made a grab for the rifles. and missed. Gun owners now know that they are always up against a stacked deck.
Thats really not the case though. Most trials dont go to jury and even those that do end in conviction. If you get indicted, youve got a 2% chance of acquittal. Compare that to 15% 30 years ago. Its almost impossible to get acquitted, especially at the federal level, today. In the early 70s, the conviction rate of those indicted was 75%. Now-its 98-99% since the CSI stuff.
We should also add to the mix some creative book keeping on the part of urban police departments. Robberies can become larcenies, burglaries switched out to vandalism/theft and assaults, some sort of harassment. And let's not forget illegals not reporting crime at all.
Everyone should write to Wallyworld like I did. Explain to them about how dangerous knives are. Feed them the facts of 297 compared to 1515 for knives.
They should stop carrying knives at all costs: It’s for the children.
You might want to mention alcohol and car parts also.
Of the 297 murders where a rifle was the weapon used, how many were: “semi-automatic”, “fully-automatic”, other?
That’s a rhetorical question I don’t expect anyone to answer. You would think that after YEARS of politics against semi-automatic rifles, the government would track precise stats on their use in murders and crime. But they don’t, even though the numbers are so low that it couldn’t be very hard. It’s almost as if they don’t want to have the truth lest they have to reveal it.
How’s about the correlation between 17 million+ licensed and untold number of constitutional concealed weapons carriers making crime a bit more risky?
This factor may be the only truly valid correlation of the ones mentioned.
What’s in your wallet?
