Former Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich.), the longest-serving African American member of Congress, died Sunday at age 90, according to multiple reports.
Conyers, a veteran of the Korean War and participant in the Civil Rights movement, was co-founder of the Congressional Black Caucus and chaired the House Oversight Committee from 1989 to 1995. He also introduced the bill establishing a national holiday commemorating Martin Luther King Jr.s birthday.
Conyers resigned from his Detroit-area seat in 2017 after serving for over 50 years amid multiple allegations of sexual harassment from young female staffers. His grandnephew Ian Conyers lost the 2018 Democratic primary to now-Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.).
DEVELOPING
It seems like he wasn’t a very edifying person. Still, there’s bound to be someone for whom Mr. Conyers’s death is a personal loss.
“Should we be sad or indifferent?”
Mixed, on my part. We mostly know him as the flaming Leftist that he was in Congress, but he also fought for civil rights (back when it was a just cause) and served the country in war time...which is more than many of us can say.
So, I’m proud of his start in life and very disappointed as to what he became.
I hope you have a nice evening. I hear it’s rainy Upnorth.
Man I sure hope this is a trend....
Well stated.
You too.
Yeah it’s gloomy
I’m over it. How about that World Series?
Thanks, I have a soft spot for people with those histories.
That and Hillary will also be studying scriptures for insight into who the President personifies this week. I mean, that is what funerals for others are isn’t it???
These things usually come in threes. I wonder if Bill Clinton — the First Black President — is worried.
You bet
That’s a good thing.
Celebrate his death by making sure the grave is marked that way we the people can get our moneys worth out of him eventually as we use his grave as a public urinal.
.Nads ?
The good die young. Except for Cummings.
That’s an interesting thought. :^)
What about that. MN Omar muzzie? That vest wearing witch would be perfect.
WhattaWeek!!!
Buh-Bye, sumbitch.

From 1965 to 2017. Fifty-two (52) years as a public servant. We must get term limits. How the hell can he represent anyone with an objective state of mind WITHOUT being in private business. Good bye!!!! Good riddance. Oh, and God speed.
