Former Rep. Beto O'Rourke (D-TX) made himself a household name when he proposed a "mandatory buyback" of all AR-15s and AK-47s. He has continually pushed this so-called "plan" at various debates and during most media interviews.
While talking with CBS News on Friday, Beto was asked, point blank, how he expects to fund his mandatory buyback program, should it become a reality. After all, AR-15s are the most common rifle in America. Assuming every single gun owner in American decided to comply which is highly unlikely he would need to come up with billions of dollars to pay for this "program."
Of course, his answer is to make the firearms industry pay for his confiscation scheme.
I think that a mandatory buyback can be financed with a surcharge that would be paid by gun manufacturers, ORourke said. Those who are making the AR-15s and AK-47s and continue to sell them into our communities despite the terror that theyve inspired and the lives that theyve taken. I think this is the right way to fund a mandatory buyback without imposing any new taxes on our fellow Americans.
Remember: the AR-15 is the most popular modern sporting rifle in America. That is a lot of cash to come up with and a lot of doors to knock on.
And anyone who still goes out and buys these "weapons of war" would then have them confiscated and they would see a fine.
For anyone who does not [turn in their weapon] and is caught in possession or seen in possession of one of these weapons of war, one of these instruments of terror, that weapon will be taken from them and they will be fined, and if they should persist in continuing to use and to buy these weapons, then there will be other consequences in the criminal code.
Here's the thing that makes absolutely no sense (not that his confiscation scheme has any clear thinking behind it): when anti-gunners talk about these "mandatory buybacks" of AR-15s it's because they want to "get them off the streets." The goal is to collect every single firearm they despise in this case it's AR-15s right? If that were the case, then wouldn't that mean that ARs would be illegal to own and possess? In theory, they would create a gun control law that stopped production of these so-called "assault weapons," in combination with this mandatory buyback scheme. If a law to ban production and sales of ARs were to go into effect, how would gun manufacturers pay a "surcharge" if they "continue to sell them into our communities"? It would be illegal for them to do so.
Beto can say he would never put a halt to the production of AR-15s but we all know that's a flat out lie. If he didn't then his buyback scheme would be useless. There would be no end goal in mind. People would, in theory, continue to purchase the firearms from manufacturers and the government would continually confiscate them.
Then again, Beto also told us last year that "if you own it [an AR-15], keep it and continue to use it." How quickly he changes his tune.
Video 33 sec. Beto: Gun Manufacturers Will Pay For a Mandatory Buyback
We further realize that when such a fool takes office, that's when we rediscover the whole purpose of the Second Amendment.
The only question will be, how much of our Second Amendment rights will have already been erased? And, will there be any patriots left to actually ask the question?
For example, in the People's Sewer of Kalifornia they are no longer able to simply replenish their ammo supply without nanny state approval. How many states will follow their lead by the time the above scenario takes place?
Well his ‘furry’ based wet dream won’t happen since he won’t be assuming the position.
Even on a good day, Irish Bob and Logic are miles apart.
The guys with the white coats are waiting ...waiting...waiting.
In a perfect world the steps to the gallows would be crowded with traitors.
Agreed...This turkey is far from being a mental giant but there are many just like him, both candidates and voters.
Beto is the Tommy Smothers of the Socialist Democrat candidates.
Lets Wrap This FReepathon Up Early, Folks Donate Today!
In real life Tommy was the smart one - Beto is a male appendage.
Robert O’Rourke should just dive into the nearest woodchipper.
So he is saying as the gun manufacturers sell these guns with a surcharge, to buy back the guns they just sold or were previously sold?
If they are so bad, why are they still being sold?
What a MORON!
exactly- let’s not forget that this country elected obama for 2 terms despite record unemployment, prices skyrocketting- years of no cost of living increases for seniors and disabled and vets while congress got their cost of living increases every year- his attacks on conservatives, attacks on marriage, etc etc etc, and came fairly close to electing a felon who spit on the lives of fellow Americans serving overseas
The reason we won last election was because Trump was able to pull in many independents who normally vote democrat- (and also because more republicans went to polls I believe)
At some point- the low info voters will get out in mass numbers and take us from economic success to poverty once again by thinking “Ya know? It’s been great, but It’s time for a change”
I hope that time is a long way off- but we gotta remember, many Americans have a very short memory-
The pointing finger of an accusing Tyrant. Who would not last very long in office, in the completely remote case he could attain it.
This is the very kind of individual... the King George III tyrant if one will, about whom the Second Amendment was conceived and written into our Constitution.
Tyranny of a skateboard stoner a@@hole who has never worked a day in his life— a kind of tehano jean kerry a@@clown, convinced of his own righteousness and the worship of his “masses”— who would rip his throat out the moment they realized what he is about.
“Then again, Beto also told us last year that “if you own it [an AR-15], keep it and continue to use it.” How quickly he changes his tune.”
Oh! what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive.
Beto is too stupid to be dumb. And we all know that there is no cure for stupid.
Beta was apparently invented the equivalent of a perpetual motion machine.
so they are going to sell them and buy them at the same time???
