U.S. plans to send additional troops to northeastern Syria to protect oil fields from ISIS

A Pentagon official said Thursday that the U.S. is planning to send additional troops into northeastern Syria to protect oil fields from ISIS. The announcement comes as Russia, which has gained new power in the region, ordered all U.S. troops out of the country and called the remaining American troops an "occupying force."

The announcement is a reversal of President Trump's decision to pull U.S. forces from the area, which sparked a Turkish cross-border offensive earlier this month.

While most U.S. troops are withdrawing from Syria, the Pentagon is planning a major increase in firepower to protect the ones left behind.

This is hard to believe and am wondering if this is not just a Pentagon decision.

The announcement is a reversal of President Trump’s decision to pull U.S. forces from the area>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

No reversal.

PDJT emoved US forces from a quagmire of internecine local ethnic warfare, after defeating ISIS.

In the continuing battle against ISIS, PDJT is now denying the remnants of ISIS the ability to finance a resurgeance.

This is a continuation of the final statges of the war against ISIS whcih is NOT a quagmire. Also the strategy is to draw out the remnants of ISIS , forcing them to attack US forces who will not have to go on the hunt for them. Very smart strategic move.

The Russians? They have placed themselves into a bed of quicksand, while President Trump has moved on after a resounding victory against ISIS.

The Russians, rather than contributing to internecine war, disorder and lawlessness in Syria, will now be forced to keep the peace.A rather brilliant move by President Trump.

What do you call a few thousand ISIS folks escaping because Turkey, which bought tons of oil from them and gave them safe passage, bombed the sh.t out of the areas they were being held prisoner?

What’s the word for that? :)

See, if they didn’t escape, then the oil fields wouldn’t need defending.

But you and your ilk made up your mind about the withdrawal in the first 10 seconds and never looked back :)

That’s cool.

at least Trump is rectifying his mistake now

No mistake.

Brilliant Strategy.

Trump just removed his troops from entrenched warfare to warfare where the enemy will continually present itself to be defeated absolutely.

Pretty good strategy by any measure.

Why keep them is refugee camps when they need to be dead?

An unnamed Pentagon official.

A CBS story.

FWIW, all, I’d consider the source first.

This President has been remarkably restrained for all the predictions that he would launch nuclear war on Inauguration Day.

Unlike his predecessors, he has *not* dragged us into stupid wars.

However, he has made it quite clear that he will do what is necessary to swiftly crush ISIS every time they pop up.

You’re welcome, civilized world.

Who ever was watching these oil fields before Obama’s Arab Spring movement, can go back to watching them. If someone needs to buy oil from them, they can help watch. If any American oil companies moved in during our occupation, sell if you can and move out. If any congressmen have something going on there, that the ethics committee might not see as ethical, turn yourself in and maybe you can retire to public life instead of jail.

What the hell...

...didn’t we just pull out of Syria? Forget the little oil in Syria and let the Russians do it.

“..which has gained new power in the region..”

Syria and Russia have had an agreement, a treaty, since 1946. The home port for the Russian Mediterranean Navy fleet. Syria has been a client state of Russian for more than 70 years. What are they talking about?

Makes sense to put a stop-gap filler in the void being left and to keep ISIS from profiting. If only the world worked as simply as many of us would like it to....every positive move is necessarily a process.

The number of those willing to fight for ISIS are not limited to escaped prisoners.

Neither are all escaped prisoners willing or able to rejoin the fight. Many articles were written about how badly ISIS treated the useful idiot jihadi’s that did join.

Sounds believable, but anyone who has followed the Syrian War closely knows your assessment is incorrect.

Being characterized by the media as a ‘gift’ of oil to the Russians.>>>

Well Putin definitely needs an oil change. Pelosi definitely should step up and do her duty for God and Country.

Meanwhile the Isis remnants will throw themselves right into the oil well buzz saw that Donald is setting up.

And that fake Pelosi oil , you can hear her stroking Putin’s pump, LOL. Maybe she will actually get some, but I doubt it. Putin knows exactly how to screw liberals, he sure did a number on his bend over boy,Obama.

But now the Russians have the impossible duty of bringing peace to the Levant. The USA does not and is free to wage war on our own terms, an enviable position to be in.
