It’s a publicity stunt, pure and simple. It’s a pretty good one, intended to show Gabbard as having some youth and vitality compared to the rest of the Democrat field. Of course, just walking and talking without assistance is enough to stand out in that group. Biden is clearly having cognitive issues (for the past 40 years), Bernie just had a heart attack, and Warren is exactly like the old women who are running Europe (except that Warren is a mother). The younger “men” in their field don’t look like they could spar with a female MMA fighter. Biden, Sanders, and Warren are likely being briefed on what this MMA thing is.
Gabbard is no threat to win the nomination, nor is she likely to run a 3rd party campaign. She’s positioning herself for the future. She’s not even 40 years old. If anything, she might be a threat in 2024 or 2028. She’s against perma-war in the Middle East, so the political winds will have to shift for her to actually have a chance. The only successful candidate to run against perma-war in the Middle East and win is President Trump, and he is being savaged for it from both sides. She has no chance. At least she slaps people like Kamala Harris and Hillary Clinton around. That gives us a reason to watch the Democrat side.
