Democrats introduce 'SWAMP' Act to ban meetings with foreign leaders at Trump properties
The Hill ^ | 10/21/19 | Jordain Carney

A group of Senate Democrats introduced legislation Monday that would block the Trump administration from holding meetings with foreign heads of state at Trump-owned properties.

Sens. Jeff Merkley (Ore.), Ed Markey (Mass.) and Mazie Hirono (Hawaii) introduced the Scrutinizing White House Activities that Make Profits (SWAMP) Act.

The measure would ban the administration from using taxpayer funds to meet with a foreign leader or hold other multilateral meetings at the Trump International Hotel, Trump Tower, Mar-A-Lago, the Doral, Fla., resort or any other property that the president or his immediate family have majority ownership in.

The bill, which has little chance of advancing in the GOP-controlled Senate, comes after Trump reversed his decision to hold next year's G-7 summit at a Trump Organization property in Doral, Fla., amid fierce pushback from Democrats and some Republicans.

“It’s time for Congress to step in and make it crystal clear: President Trump cannot profiteer off of his meetings with foreign leaders — not with the G-7, not ever,” Merkley said in a statement.

Those maggots/faggots/hypocrites don’t even try to hide their corruption anymore. Used to, at least the public held them to some ethics. Now, it’s just RAT biz as usual.

even though it is likely cheaper to do so, since Security issues are already known at the Trump properties.

Laws that target individuals are against the Constitution.

This is just a stunt for political show. If these morons don't know they cannot pass laws against specific individuals they need to get dragged out of the House of Representatives and severely beaten.

I'm NOT kidding.

I meant SENATE, not HoR. I’m just so used to this kind of stupidity coming from the HoR.

No, I think the President feels more safe there and that he feels the same about the possible guests.

The Democrats are such babies.

“Do any Freepers believe it was in poor taste for the President to have the G7 at his own resort?”

Not this one.....There are a host of advantages including security advantages, overall attendee comfort, familiarity with the layout and not to mention he was doing it at cost which would save the American taxpayer a sizeable chunk of change.

What could possibly be considered “bad taste” in that?

If not in poor taste, it was at least politically foolish to do it after spending weeks pointing out the Biden family for political profiteering. Even if President Trump's heart was pure and he would take a monetary loss on the deal, he should have known how the Dems would react.

Given the innevitable audits, I am sure the taxpayer would have received a huge discount below what would be awarded in "competitive contracts." Of course the issue is that there are venues and caterers who will pay off the politicians out of the profits that they will earn on catering an event like this.

Another day another $10B down the swampdrain.

1) Bills of attainder are un-Constitutional.

2) Trump stated in his first press conference that any fees collected from foreign sources at his businesses will be turned over to the US Treasury.

3) Worried about Trump unjustly enriching himself in office? Fine, lets talk about Hillary, arriving broke and worth 45 million (not including her foundation)
Lets talk about Obama, arriving broke not even owning a house, worth 300 million when he left office. Let’s talk about Maxine Waters, arriving broke, now worth a few million.

4) Trump will veto your law if you pass it. Got 2/3rds sport?

You are absolutely correct. Rich people who earned their money outside of government have no business running for elective office of any kind. Only people who have devoted their lives to collecting government checks should be considered.
