Lawmakers want to know who’s paying for private lavish travel of Supreme Court Justices

A new bill would require Supreme Court justices to disclose more information about privately funded travel, a lavish and much-enjoyed perk of service on the nation’s highest judicial tribunal.

Federal judges have relatively cursory reporting requirements for reimbursed travel as compared to the other branches of government. The justices are only obligated to provide the source and a brief description of reimbursements, but need not report dollar amounts or any gift received as “personal hospitality.”

“Judges and justices receive free trips around the world, and the American people deserve to know in a timely manner how much the excursions cost and who’s paying,” Fix the Court executive director Gabe Roth said in a statement following introduction of the bill on Oct. 17. “Officials in the executive and legislative branches are already compelled to disclose this type of information, so there’s no reason judicial travel and gift reporting should remain exempt from accepted standards.”

Justice Clarence Thomas took reimbursed trips to Florida 14 times and Nebraska 11 times

Oh no! Wonder if he was drinking margaritas on the Platte River. No one vacations in Nebraska except to see family.

Well, I’ll be.......as if we didn’t have our hands full trying to figure out what congress critters are up to, now we have to worry about Supreme Court Justices at the “taxpayer trough” also. Who woulda’ thought? Not me. I’m really surprised - not sarcasm. Just never gave it a thought. I never figured they’d be world travelers on OUR DIME! Thanks to whoever decided to make this public...And what on earth does traveling have to do with their jobs? If I was still working and wanted my employer to reimburse me for my expenses while traveling, I better have a darned good reason for the travel AND THE EXPENSE.

“”Democratic Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island is the lead Senate sponsor, while Democratic Rep. David Cicilline of Rhode Island is leading the House effort.””

From the link - Tell me that’s not true - I wouldn’t agree with those two pukes if they told me my house was on fire...

That’s a bit harsh!

I was going to suggest the Corn Palace, then I remembered.

Two D’rats pushing this, eh? Tells us a lot.
Either an extortion to ‘behave’, or to distract from other rat turds.

“”The proposed legislation is the latest component of a broader push to bring the Supreme Court in line with prevailing federal ethics standards. Justice Elena Kagan told a House panel in March that Chief Justice John Roberts is considering whether the high court could adopt its own code of ethics. Roberts also ordered the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts to review internal mechanisms for reporting and investigating sexual misconduct in the federal judiciary.””

Pays to read the whole thing BEFORE posting...What a novel idea - establish a “code of ethics” and here we taxpayers were of the belief that such a thing existed FOR ANYONE on OUR PAYROLL! How naïve. And we’re to trust the “judiciary”? Nope - sorry but NOPE! We have found out in these past three years that there isn’t anyone we can trust with ANY connection to the federal government.
