FULL TITLE: Israel, Russia, and the US are in a diplomatic standoff over a 26-year-old woman smuggling 9 and a half grams of marijuana

A 26-year-old American-Israeli woman who was arrested at a Moscow airport with nine and a half grams of marijuana in April was sentenced on Friday to seven and a half years of prison in Russia on drug smuggling charges.
Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu has argued for Naama Issachar's release, but her case is tied up in an ongoing diplomatic dispute between Russia, Israel, and the US.
Russia is attempting to secure the release of an IT specialist, Aleksey Burkov, who was wanted in the US on charges of hacking and credit card fraud and was approved for extradition to the US by Israel's Supreme Court in August after his arrest in an Israeli airport in December 2015.
CNN reports that Burkov's family has proposed a prisoner swap with Issachar and that Netanyahu has suggested there is interest in that option, as Burkov "is subject to extradition."

Don’t travel to foreign countries with contraband
Make stupid choices, win stupid prizes...
Let Russia keep the druggie, if they really want her.
Many countries have very different views of things like drugs, homosexuality, thievery, etc... why is anyone surprised?
I lived in Singapore. Need I say more?
Try that in Singapore bitch.
(been there twice)
I might trade him for her and a more important American that Russia is holding. As is, the him for her trade is vastly unbalanced. This is one reason I don’t like to travel to totalitarian countries where you can be grabbed and severely punished for small infractions when in reality the government is kidnapping for a hostage swap.

You are kidding, yes? US has by far the highest incarceration rate in the World. One in four people in prison worldwide is in US prison. China can’t even dream to come close in terms of police state.
She was that stupid to try to smuggle drugs in Russia, now we are concerned about her? Move along.......
If Russians smoked dope like they abuse vodka, their life expectancy might not be so low
Imagine that. She get a stupid libel druggy back and they get their hacker back.
Hell no
But the media of hysterics is fully behind it
Sick and tired of people listening to women and ignoring warnings of men out west. What pu$$ified society
Irrelevant comment.
Russia use communist drug cartels at their service, making Marxism work for them, unlike our Marxists who serve Marxism and make themselves work for Marxism like idiots
“Let Russia keep the druggie, if they really want her.”

She’s a useful tool.
Unbelievable that she didn’t even check her luggage prior to heading to Russia.
Folks get so arrogant as to their ‘rights.’
They’d smoke dope AND drink more vodka. The roads would be a lot more entertaining on YouTube.
Did you miss post #8? Those were women caught smuggling drugs into China. You can find their pre-execution interviews and post-execution photos on the web. But you are correct, China incarcerates far less than the US.
It isn’t as if drug use is unheard of in Russia. Ever read about the drug they call crokodil?
Give her a year for the insult to authority. But, the suggested sentence is excessive for a personal user who clearly isn’t a dealer.
Well, she carried it across a border. That makes her a smuggler. Also, you are adding your own American perspective to this. As I mentioned, other countries have very different views about "casual" drug use.
You would have a point if you could show me that Russian citizens themselves receive much lighter sentences from the one this woman received. But I don't think that's the case.
