WSJ: Trump Is Converting GOP to Populist, Pro-Employee Party
Breitbart ^ | 19 Oct 2019 | NEIL MUNRO

Posted on 10/19/2019 4:11:14 PM PDT by Hojczyk

Mr. Trump accelerated the movement of working-class voters into the Republican Party, creating a GOP that now represents more middle- and lower-income Americans … He has reframed much of the Republican agenda to appeal to these voters, particularly on trade, immigration and foreign affairs, in many cases upending 40 years of GOP policy.

In turn, the Democrats are increasingly the party of America’s wealthiest cities, post-industrial business leaders, and the “woke” professional class.

This political transformation, however, means that U.S. college graduates have few friends in Washington, D.C., to protect their economic interests in a shifting economy.

The WSJ provides the data:

The Republican Party now represents more middle- and lower-income Americans than it did a decade ago. When all the U.S. House districts are ranked by median income, the GOP now represents 58% of the lower-income half of that spectrum, up from 39% of lower-income districts a decade ago. And it represents 34% of the higher-income half, down from 43% a decade ago.

But the shift also exacerbates the average voter’s tension with the GOP’s wealthier leadership class. The WSJ reported:

The most ardent Trump supporters agree with Mr. Trump’s restrictive positions on immigration and his opposition to efforts to address climate change, among other policies. The party-supporting Republicans believe immigration helps the nation and that near-term action to fight climate change is needed.

The share of white GOP members with college degrees has dropped from 40 percent in 2012 down to 29 percent in 2018., while the share of non-college grads has climbed from 50 percent in 2010 to 59 percent in 2018.

Trump has exposed the GOP for what they are...useless.

Any ideas...

How about WPA.. Working Party of America..

The leftist might get confused and vote for it

Exactly. The “elite” just hate the serfs exercising some “power” of their own.

Damn those “deplorables.”

The article states that the President opposes immigration. I do not agree. The President opposes illegal immigration and what was (and still may be) an open southern border.

I am age 68.

When I was a kid, the GOP were called “Country Club Republicans. The Democrats were “the working man”.

I find it so interesting how the paradigm has totally flipped over between the two idiologies. We now have Lear Jet Liberals and the Deplorable working class.

Exactly why people like Bill Kristol are pissed - they don’t want the likes of the working Americans in their club.

As I see it the rats USED to be the party of working people until Clintons arrived and dismissed “deplorables” aka the “Forgotten” so Trump saw the gap and ran into it.

Hillary took the votes of the Forgotten for granted. This woman ruins whatever she touches.

We deplorables are their greatest enemy Trump is our gift to them. The left hates us more or as much as Trump. We will have to fight at some point to keep ourselves and our Constitution. I wish I was 20 years younger but I’m in.

The share of white GOP members with college degrees has dropped from 40 percent in 2012 down to 29 percent in 2018

Probably a misleading statistic. This does not necessarily mean that college indoctrinates have left the GOP. It may reflect an influx of non-college indoctrinates.

Suppose in 2012 there were only 100 members of the GOP, 40 of whom were college indoctrinates. Suppose in 2018, the same 40 college indoctrinates were still members of the GOP, but total GOP membership increased to 139. The 40 would then constitute 29% of total GOP membership.

I'm not saying that this is exactly what happened, but am suggesting that GOP college-indoctrinated membership probably did not decline by 27% (from 40% to 29%) in six years.

The “Country Club Republicans” was a phrase developed by the liberal press to demonize republicans. Democrats have always been for the rich and the “do as I say, not as I do” democrat crowd.

Yeah, it was a lie then too, unless you worked for the gubmint.

The GOP always wanted a healthy private sector, a strong vibrant economy, including small business...Who else is "the working man" supposed to work for, the homeless?

that’s because the educated are anything but in most cases anymore. If they were they would realize that more opportunities are opened to them because of President Trump. When the Democrats regain control they will see just has destructive the Democrat Party is to them.

The tendency of college graduates to be Democrats or RINOs is further proof that our university system is now self-destructive.
