El Chapo's cartel launches military-style assault on Mexican forces
National Post ^ | October 18, 2019

The Mexican city of Culiacán descended into terror on Thursday, when soldiers and police launched a raid to capture one of the heirs to the throne of jailed Mexican kingpin Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman. As state forces advanced into the city, the Sinaloa Cartel hit back with an array of military-style weapons — and won.

Mexican officials briefly detained Ovidio Guzman, one of Guzman’s sons who has emerged as a leading figure in the cartel after his father was arrested in 2016. But in response the cartel freed dozens of prisoners from a local jail, set numerous vehicles alight and turned Culiacán into a war zone. Soon, Mexican authorities released Guzman.

Security Minister Alfonso Durazo told Reuters Guzman was released to protect lives. Reports, which the government later denied, indicated the cartel took government soldiers hostage as a bargaining chip to secure his freedom. At least eight people were reported killed, including five suspected gang members, in the city of nearly 1 million people.

So the government gave up for the good of the people after a conflict wherein there was less damage and casualties than a family reunion in Chicago?

I don’t believe it.

For years the cartels have been hiring kids to join the military with the intention that they learn these skills, something like a government funded apprenticeship. Maybe you get a bonus if you bring your own tools?

There is no legitimate government. Those that don’t take the silver to stay in office get the lead therefor those still in office are already on the cartel side.

The only way for our military to win is to either kill them all and let God sort them out or stay out of Mexico in the first place.

This has been an issue for Mexico since the Spanish left

Caudillos on parade....scores of them...like Santa Anna...thrice.... and then a violent anti religious revolution followed by failed uniparty governance utterly corrupt

The business and govt and culture are determined by the elite in the major cities which is mostly European stock

And beneath them is maybe 80% some sort of Indian or Indian mixed folks who never caught up..

Probably 25-30% of that later group have migrated here since the 70s and cut yards and lay brick and block and so forth

It’s a failed state in some areas and not so in others

The cartel army can certainly run Sinoala urban areas but it could never do this in Mexico City or Guadalajara and so forth.....probably not even in Monterey or Saltillo

Sinoala has always been pretty lawless

Anyhow the Spanish colonized poorly. And you can tell. They mostly used soldiers who immediately mixed with the tribes and this is what you get with the masses. From Stone Age to the modern world in a few hundred years ain’t gonna happen

The Catholic Church also had a huge hand in this way of colonizing the new world way beyond religious instruction and into wealth gathering and political influence and I don’t think either of these models worked as well as the English model here

Generally the more European the Latin America nation the better it functions unless revolutionaries can get power like in Cuba

The next Rambo movie after "Last Blood" should be,"Rambo Día de Muertos", where John goes back to Mexico with Black Water types or mercenaries who will fight for others like Rambo who have lost loved ones to the cartels, and wage total Rambo war and destroy them all across the border.

I guess the Cartels ARE the Mexican government.

The reason the Democrats want the border wide open is that they're secretly dealing with the REAL Mexican government - the cartels.

MexiCartel has the money to bribe the border Democrats to look the other way.

But now, Mexico has ceased to be a state at all; it is simply an agglomeration of territory with an all-but-nonexistent central government and over which a group of warlords struggle for control

And the true government of Mexico, the warlords, pays the border Democrat politicians to keep the border wide open.

Scott Adams advocates whacking the cartels with American Special Forces [Scott's daily Periscope, October 19, 2019]:

https://youtu.be/00D-GDUW7xw?t=2616 [I start the video at 37:36]

Adams has a beef with China and their fentanyl middlemen in the MexiCartel cartels, because his adopted son died of a fentanyl overdose last year.

Something along the lines of "let God sort them out".

I bet soldiers are deserting the Mexican army and taking their weapons with them and joining the cartels.

That has been going on for decades. About 10 years ago it got to the point the Mexican government stopped keeping track of or looking for their military that went AWOL. They knew where they went...knew they weren't getting them back even for punishment.

The Mexicans should have executed Ovidio Guzman and then wrote up a press release that Guzman slipped on a banana peel and died.

Americans are the consumers. I would like to hear about more arrests of the distributors on this side of the border. Who are the dealers receiving these large shipments, they are on our soil and we don’t hear enough about their arrests. We can blame the drug makers but if we really want to cut them off we need to do more here in the US on our home turf, or legalize it if we are going to do nothing.

In the atmosphere of lawlessness and anarchy, it became very profitable to produce, first marijuana, then stronger and stronger drugs, establishing the outlaw drug cartels that have grown to what they have become. <<

Kinda like how the “Mafia” evolved in the US...huh?
