Former Defense secretary James Mattis responded to the President Trump calling him “the world’s most overrated general” during a meeting with Congressional leaders Wednesday.
“I’m not just an overrated general. I’m the greatest, the world’s most overrated," Mattis told the audience at the Al Smith Memorial Foundation dinner Thursday. Mattis was the keynote speaker at the 74th annual event.
"I'm honored to be considered that by Donald Trump because he also called Meryl Streep an overrated actress. So I guess I'm the Meryl Streep of generals, and frankly that sounds pretty good to me,” Mattis continued.
But Mattis didn’t stop there with his jabs at the president.
“And you do have to admit that between me and Meryl, at least we’ve had some victories,” he joked.

I guess he was a fine General.
But as a politician he was inept imo.
First, he supported women in combat arms.
Second, he had no probs with gay/trans in military.
Thirdly, Mattis lied and stated in testimony that enhanced interrogation (used the loaded torture) doesn’t work. He knows for a FACT, THAT IS FALSE. We got the location of Bin Laden due to the breaking of Khalid Sheik Muhammad.
Fourth, when you serve under the President, you serve at the pleasure of the President. You provide advice, counsel and opinion for the President to make the decision.
Get over it Marine.
Hiring and firing generals over performance was what won us wWII. Even the best generals ended up being fired once they started slacking.

Streep IS an overrated actress.
Watch 2004 ‘Manchurian Candiate” - you have to get by the bad music in the first act (opening song is OK version of CCR’s “Fortunate Son”).
Streep is doing Hillary. She’ll never admit it but that’s what she’s doing.
Mattis seemed to have a hard time taking orders from his superior.
On the other hand when he couldn't take the orders then he left. He didn't stay around as a disloyal member of the administration. And let's be honest, Trump has been plagued with those.
I agree. Wish our President would stop name calling people. It’s just becoming so high schoolish. Make a point or jab with stupid name calling.

Of all the Meryl Streep movies I have tried to watch, The River Wild is the only one that lasted more than 5 minutes, and it didn’t last over 10 minutes. The movie where they sang songs by the World’s most overrated band was enjoyed by my wife and daughter. Not by me or my son.
Friggin General disrespects a President. Boy oh boy..... President Trump must be doing something extraordinary.

I find two things interesting - that he used a woman as an analogy and I can’t help but think what Streep might think about it....she’s now gonna be known as the one Mattis called the “most overrated...”
