Rand Paul: Troops in Saudi Arabia create 'magnet for all the crazy jihadists around the world'

An increased American military presence in Saudi Arabia creates a "magnet" for Islamic extremism in the region, and presents an open target for radical jihadists, said Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., during a Sunday television interview.

Paul expressed dismay at President Trump's decision to send 2,800 more American soldiers to Saudi Arabia after their old fields were attacked, during an interview on "Meet the Press." He claimed the Saudis need to change their attitude before they can expect financial and military support from the United States.

"I’m not [comfortable with it]," Paul said. "I would withhold troops and arms from the Saudis until we see better behavior. I think that our arms... uniquely belong to the American people."

I find it amusing that FR Liberaltarians are all aga-gah over Trump moving US Forces from Syria Northeast to other parts of the Middle East. As if that is somehow significant in regards to bringing US troops home.
>

Prob. not nearly as amusing as the supposedly ‘small govt’ (R)N(C) majority was approving Pres. Trump’s farmer slush-fund, DACA punt (again), $1T+ deficit “budgets”, etc.

I suspect most of us FR (L) are keen on removing/returning troops from Syria ONLY (ending the dopey, extra-Constitutional ‘World Police’), not so much the rearranging of the Titanic’s deck-chairs.

You know-I still haven’t figured out this move on Trump’s part. However... THIS is one angle I didn’t consider.

I think it will force the MSM to do its job and address the ME and the hostilities there in a more objective way-if they remember how. It’s something they ceased doing long ago.

This President and the US military -once removed from the equation-cannot no longer be misrepresented by the MSM

“ Remind me which branch of the military Rand Paul served in.”

He didn’t. But I fail to see how that’s relevant. I served in the USMC and I happen to agree with Paul on this issue. We’ve poured billions of dollars in weapons and training into that sand covered crap hole over the last 20 years. If they haven’t learned to defend themselves by now they never will.

Give them a hearty handshake, wish them the very best of luck, and GTFO. Maybe that will motivate them.

Crazy Jihadists don’t need any provocation to hate us.

They just do.

I heard Rand on Hannity yesterday. He sounded weak defending Trump, and he also didn’t vote for the wall with the Emergency Act. He’s weak on national security.

Al Qaeda targeted the USA for 9/11 because “infidel troops were on holy soil” from 1990 onwards.
That's the stupidest thing I've read on FR in a long time.

Maybe, like in Fallujah, we can attract them there and eliminate them enmasse, less to ever have to deal with elsewhere, espc on our shores.

On the other hand, screw the KSA. They have a modern military, US equipment and training, let them fight their battles.
We have plenty of oil to sell to make up shortfalls....

Bad news for Paul bashers. Trump still likes him =>

@realDonaldTrump

Senator Rand Paul just wrote a great book, “The Case Against Socialism” which is now out. Highly recommended – as America was founded on LIBERTY & INDEPENDENCE – not government coercion, domination & control. We were born free, and will stay free, as long as I am your President!
