Reid warns Democrats not to underestimate Trump

Former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) is warning Democrats not to underestimate President Trump in 2020.

“I used to think that Donald Trump was not too smart. I certainly don't believe that anymore,” Reid told CNN’s David Axelrod during an interview on “The Axe Files” aired late Saturday.

“I don't think he's intellectually a powerhouse, but he is basically a very, very smart man,” he added. “No matter what the subject, any argument he involves himself in, it's on his terms. You're always arguing against him. He never, never willing to debate an issue on terms that aren’t his.”

When asked what advice he would give to a candidate running against Trump, Reid responded: “Well, what I say initially and I say it right here in your show, anyone that thinks Trump's going to be beaten easily should have another think coming.”

Reid also weighed in on the Ukraine scandal that’s sparked an impeachment inquiry against Trump, saying the president’s actions can’t go “unpunished.”

Reid said the “evidence is very clear” that Trump was withholding aid to Ukraine to pressure its president to investigate 2020 presidential candidate Joe Biden and his son.

After Axelrod noted there is “almost zero chance” Trump would be convicted in the upper chamber, Reid also said he is disappointed with what the Senate has become.

“I'm also tremendously disappointed in what the Republican senators have not become. They have not become the Mark Hatfields of the world, the John Chafees, the John Hines who are Republican senators who did what they thought was the right thing to do,” he said.

“And we have these Republicans who are afraid to speak out against things that he does that are absolutely wrong and they know they're wrong. The only person we've gotten to say anything is Mitt Romney and [Ben] Sasse who said something out of Nebraska. Other than that, they don't say anything.”

This is the guy who claimed Romney hadn’t paid taxes in ten years then said he wasn’t sorry he lied “because it worked.”

Reid is warning Democrats to back off. They’re too deranged, lazy or stupid to care.

Last night’s result in LA won’t get them to reconsider.

Harry Reid is a liar. Why should we believe anything he says?

If Democrats aren’t going to listen to him and they won’t. - I’m already looking forward to the new year.

I just read an article about McConnell going radio silent on impeachment. He has exactly zero interest supporting POTUS. With Republicans like that who needs Democrats?

McConnell has gone silent on impeachment because there’s nothing for him to talk about unless and until the Democrats actually draft any impeachment articles to vote on. Without any substantive points to talk about, anything McConnell says at this point will amount to nothing more than flailing at empty air.

The left will do anything, even sacrifice power to stay out of prison.

Fear is motivating them.

Now where is that crowdstrike server?

".... He [McConnell] has exactly zero interest supporting POTUS...."

I have read recently, that as soon as any impeachment articles hit his desk, he said he will shut it down immediately.

That sounds like he's supporting the president to me.

But then who are we to believe? Your story or mine or somewhere in between?

With all the fake news lately and partisan political intrigue, one never knows what's really happening.

The time to shut down the Ukraine phone call nonsense is now. Not after the Dem House has set their narrative, impeached POTUS and beltway business grinds to halt with an impeachment trial circus.

McConnell needs to use the Senate to support POTUS in exactly the same way Dems use the House to assault POTUS and his supporters. The only logical conclusion to McConnell’s lack of support of Trump is that he too wants POTUS impeached and hamstrung.

It’s been over 3 years since these Democrat crimes. Nobody is in prison for them. Why should they fear anything? Democrats fight for every inch every day. Ideology and winning is what motivates them.

I think the president has it. Based on that rally in Minnesota. Most likely they have been querying the monitoring database, the Mac address and the IP are the primary key, which I imagine you need to have authority access and reason as it reveals lots about an individual. This is precisely what Obama wasn’t doing. I think it’s interesting that CIA war tools were leaked. I think they were leaked because they were being used to spy on citizens. Probably the NSA did it as part of a turf war

The ‘rope’ the Dems have been ‘given’ to run out has been exposing them and their tactics of corruption to the public....I say let them run it out until they’re ‘all’ exposed.....some already know ‘their’ rope is being slowly pulled in and they’re very afraid. Not just here but abroad as well.

I'm not sure what you mean by McConnell using the Senate to support the president.

He can't dictate to the House to stop the impeachment inquiry. He can't deal with the impeachment until he has something to deal with. The House so far has flailed around trying to make a case that the "whistleblower" knows more than the unredacted transcript of the president's phone call but is failing badly to do that.

If you're inferring from McConnell's lack of action before there is anything to take action on, that he is for impeachment and wants to hamstring the president, that is your opinion.

But I see it differently.
