In a shocking turn of events that stunned the media industry, Fox News anchor Shepard Smith announced his departure from the network after more than 23 years.
Smith is one of the faces of the network's news division and one of its most important journalistic assets. The decision was Smith's, Fox News said.
"Recently I asked the company to allow me to leave FOX News and begin a new chapter," Smith said. "After requesting that I stay, they graciously obliged. The opportunities afforded this guy from small town Mississippi have been many. Its been an honor and a privilege to report the news each day to our loyal audience in context and with perspective, without fear or favor. Ive worked with the most talented, dedicated and focused professionals I know and Im proud to have anchored their work each day I will deeply miss them.
Fox News president Jay Wallace, who was once Smith's producer, said in a statement: "Shep is one of the premier newscasters of his generation and his extraordinary body of work is among the finest journalism in the industry. His integrity and outstanding reporting from the field helped put Fox News on the map and there is simply no better breaking news anchor who has the ability to transport a viewer to a place of conflict, tragedy, despair or elation through his masterful delivery."
Wallace continued: "We are proud of the signature reporting and anchoring style he honed at Fox News, along with everything he accomplished here during his monumental 23-year tenure. While this day is especially difficult as his former producer, we respect his decision and are deeply grateful for his immense contributions to the entire network.
More to come.
Hes probably getting his own prime time show on CNN or MSNBC.
Gonna co-host with the MadCow ?
Shep No More...
Smith is an over-the-top drama queen who lasted much longer at Fox News than he should have. His unforgivable coverage of Hurricane Katrina, reporting that there was cannibalism in the Super Dome, should have gotten him fired in 2005.
“Should have been fired in 2005 for his Katrina theatrics.”

Hi, Lurkinanloomin-!
Agree! His actions during that timeframe were the last straw for me. Decided he was too emotional and no longer even attempting to be clear headed in his actions.
I bet he wants to get behind Mayor Buttcrack and push firmly - for his nomination.
Going full GAY porn career?
I have to wonder if his recent feud with Tucker and Hannity, and the warning he allegedly received to stop it, is involved here? I expect this asshat to be at CNN or MSNBC within weeks if the separation agreement allows it
last time I watched Fox News.
OH, NOES! How could Fox let “one of its most important journalistic assets” just walk out the door? Quick, after him, somebody hold him just outside the door, and slam the door shut, making sure the doorknob catches him squarely where it would make the most satisfactory parting gift.
NOT sorry to see you gone, Shep. You are as wobbly as Geraldo Rivera and Juan Williams, combined.
For me, out here in Hawaii, it means I no longer have to turn off my TV at precisely 9:00 AM
This man’s smarmy anti-Trumpism has sickened me since President Trump was elected. I considered him a stain on the Fox lineup.
Criticize Fox News all you want but look at the alternatives.
Smith was the odd card on that network and now he is GONE.
Good (bad ) riddance!
Good riddance.
Hey Jay Wallace..YOU’RE NEXT!!!!.
Sigmund Freud: "Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar..."
I thought that was Groucho Marx?
He’s going elsewhere to perform Penetrating Anal.ysis.
Having the lowest rated show on Fox probably contributed to his decision.
LOL!!!!
I think their faces and their assets are the same thing in the media. They are always talking out of their assets.
That’s when I turned off FOX for good, after having it on almost 24/7 on at least one of my TVs
