Californians not giving up trucks, SUVs — setting state up for failure on climate goals

California is not on track to meet its greenhouse gas emission goals, in part because Californians just aren’t ready to give up their trucks and SUVs.

A new study by nonprofit group Next 10 and Beacon Economics found Californians in late 2018 owned more gas-guzzling pickups, mini-vans and SUVs than they did five years ago. Those vehicles made up 57.3 percent of new vehicle registrations in 2018, compared to 39.3 percent in 2013.

...

“Assuming the same rate of reduction from 2016 to 2017, California will reach its 2030 and 2050 goals in 2061 and 2157, respectively — representing a 31-year and a 107-year delay,” according to the report.

With gas just under $5.00 a gallon, they will be giving them up.

The guy next to me just pumped $100.00 worth of gas to fill up his Ford Truck. He said he was not even on empty.

Camping is at it’s zenith, with new people buying vehicles and camping that ever before.

Pulling many of those campers and recreation objects, requires a truck that is rated to pull them.

Who knew?

The people in Sacramento don’t fix real world problems.

They sit there and fester as Leftist special interest group after special interest group come in and talk to them all but destroying reality for them.

What the world needs is tens of thousands more special interest groups, many of which find a way for the government to fund their efforts. (at least I suspect that to be true)

Put an end to their funding. Put an end to special credit at the universities for unAmerican activities.

Californians not giving up trucks, SUVs — setting state up for failure on climate goals

California hasn't given citizens enough motivation to give up trucks and SUV's.

They can demand and push for electric cars, Then the utility company will shut off power for the next 1 to 5 days For 800,000 or so customers every time it gets windy and there might be a chance of a fire.

One proposal few would call timid is to remove gas-powered vehicles from the road. Assemblyman Phil Ting, D-San Francisco, in 2017 proposed a bill that would have been sales of new gas-powered cars by 2040. It didn’t pass, but Democratic presidential candidates are now including the proposal as part of their platforms.

Obviously, more coercion, possibly at gunpoint by state troopers, is needed.

So, you have an electric car and PGE shuts the power off for a week to prevent forest fires because the state doesn’t allow them to clear the brush and you now can’t charge your car. You’re forced to stay home but there’s no power in your all electric home so you can’t cook. You decide to BBQ the meat in your freezer so it doesn’t go bad in the fridge with no power. You load up the charcoal grill, add the charcoal lighter fluid, throw a match in and then go back in the kitchen to prepare your meat while the charcoals get hot. A sudden breeze comes up and blows sparks over to your dry grass that’s dry because they don’t allow you to water. The grass lights and catches your fence on fire. That spreads to your house then to the woods that surround your house. You couldn’t call the fire dept because you couldn’t charge its battery ;ast night—no power. The wind picks up and the out of control fire continues spreading and soon becomes a full blown forest fire destroying thousands of acres and hundreds of homes.

No problem. The gubmint investigates, fines PGE another gazillion dollars and decides to take action to prevent this from ever happening again.

They ban BBQs.

Not a chance. It seems like every family in CA has an SUV... well all the minivans are driven by Mexicans. Anyway, $100K monthly-income Progressives buy new Escalades from the nearby Cadillac dealership as an extra vehicle because all their neighbors have one.

As SUVs are now the size of a mid size car of 20 years ago they are surprised that people now buy cars the same size as they always did?

You still have to fit the kids or groceries in bright boys.

Visiting friends in the Sierras today in a powered down house. The wind is about 1-2 mph out of the south some of the leaves in the tops of the trees are moving once and a while. I can even feel the air move, once, as I typed this.

The insanity, it burns...
