Read the whistleblower's memo about Trump's Ukraine call, as described to CBS News

CBS News has learned the full contents of what appears to be a memo written by the whistleblower one day after President Trump spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in July.

The memo, dated July 26, is based on a conversation the whistleblower had with an unnamed White House official who listened to the call.

According to a source familiar with the matter, the memo was among the factors that led the intelligence community inspector general to determine the whistleblower's formal August 12 complaint was credible. The inspector general testified Friday behind closed doors before the three House committee leading the impeachment inquiry.

The president's call with Zelensky was held on the morning of July 25. The whistleblower wrote the memo the next day after speaking with the official in the afternoon. The whistleblower wrote that he or she spoke with the White House official for "a few minutes," and summarized their conversation.

According to the memo, the White House official described the contents of the call as "crazy," "frightening" and "completely lacking in substance related to national security."

The whistleblower said the official was "visibly shaken by what had transpired and seemed keen to inform a trusted colleague within the U.S. national security apparatus about the call."

The whistleblower's summary of the White House official's account of the call largely comports with the call record released by the White House, though some details are missing.

P.S., and what this also tells me is that at the time of the call, the President was unaware that Ukraine had reopened the investigation, or he wouldn’t have brought it up....so the Dems can’t claim collusion.

Yes, the same. He was on the news... 15 minutes...6:00 to 6:15 pm... many years before he showed his liberal side. Once he began showing his left positions, he just got worse at it. When tv first came into our homes, there was no such thing as liberalism being the norm and showing it was taboo.

When Kennedy was shot, cronkite went into morning ... he broke on TV.. when I was growing up, I didn’t know there were liberals out there.

Amos and Andy was on the radio and then TV... today it would not be allowed in any shape or form. Seeing the changes... some of them are hard to take today. It isn’t for the better at all... and it just keeps going lower.

Exactly right! The actual transcript of phone call supersedes all 2nd hand opinions from whistle blowers.

The official described the call as “crazy,” “frightening” and “completely lacking in substance related to national security.”

Game over. How do you make a complaint to the inspector general of the intelligence community when the conversation was completely lacking in substance related to national security (and, impliedly - intelligence)? What we have here is a lot of flustered folks - who need to be identified, and fired, or if they cannot be fired, transferred to Guam. But get them the hell out of the White House.

To hell with the actual phone call. What the whistleblower says is the important thing.

Not only is the “whistleblower” in serious trouble, but so is the twit who gave him the gossip while knowing it’s presumed secret.

I think someone ought to be looking at that IG while they're at it...

Fully agree that Trump’s remarks make sense if he is thinking, in his disjointed way, about unmasking the 2016 coup plot. It gives me hope that Trump knows that Barr is working in that direction. Brennan’s recent comment that “perhaps he had some bad information” means he is feeling the heat. His claim digs him a deeper hole: who gave Brennan that bad information? Russians? UKRAINIANS? So his best defense for interfering with the election, destroying lives, reputations and Trump’s effectiveness in office, is that he is a gullible chump who was easily played. Some CIA Director.

"Fully agree that Trump’s remarks make sense if he is thinking, in his disjointed way, about unmasking the 2016 coup plot."

Key to this is "in his disjointed way." The left keeps coming back to about eight or nine Trump comments that allegedly voice support for neo-Nazis, claim that all Mexicans are rapists, and - in this case - is targeting a political opponent looking forward to the 2020 election. But probably half of these so-called damning quotes are the result of Trump's "disjointed" speaking style - shoot from the hip, stream-of-consciousness - which awkwardly jumbles things together and combines them in ways which give an opening to his critics, who will pounce on any morsel he gives them and apply the worst possible interpretation.

Schiff's characterization of the Ukraine phone call is one of the worst and most recent examples of this.
